Period leaks and going away

Wasn’t sure quite where to post this so apologies if in the wrong place.

I’m going away for two nights and of course am on the heaviest days of my period. I had a terrible experience once of leaking at night into a mattress at someone’s house and am now nervous this will happen again.

What do you lovely ladies do at night to 100% protect from leaks? I’m thinking a plastic bag under me at the moment!

How about a nigh-time sanitary pad and period pants over the top? Would that work? Am about to pop to Tescos!

Thank you :)

I used to use those disposable pads you put in cots, not sure if you can still buy them?

WooWooWinnie · 11/04/2025 07:34

You want puppy pads/disposable incontinence sheets.

I would do the pad & period pants but if you want something under you, I would get the bed wedding mats for toddlers, much more soft and comfortable than a carrier bag!

Might be easier to get in small packs than puppy pads - wonder if Tesco extra will stock.. will look! Thank you!

Fold a towel and put that on the bed, and wear period underwear at the same time.

Will bring a towel. Do you know if you can put a sanitary towel inside period pants? I haven’t used them before?

Tena nighttime in the purple pack, you either get a 12 pack or a six pack! Only thing that gets me through the first few days and nights…and puppy pads!

That’s exactly what I was going to suggest.

I do sometimes, it is possible it just provides extra soakage if some of it shoots backwards or forwards especially when lying down.

I would put a night time pad in my normal underwear then put period pants over the top. I think you’d be pretty well protected with that.

Ineffable23 · 11/04/2025 22:57

I find sleeping on my front helps a lot, because the direction of the vagina means then that it doesn't all come out at night. Requires a hefty pad still and a dash to the loo as soon as you wake up, but a lot easier than if it's trying to leak out all night.

It wouldn't have worked when I was in my "bleed through a super plus tampon in an hour" phase but nothing stopped me leaking in that phase, so used to just put a burgundy towel on the bed and be done with it.

UnPetitCochon · 11/04/2025 22:59

2 tampons in at once. It’s a bit fiddly, just make sure you use applicator tampons and then push them in at the same time. Then use a long absorbent pad with wings. First day of my period is a nightmare sometimes and I have to do this.
