Pinky brown spotting post menopause

Inastatus · 04/04/2025 13:50

I have had what I think is thrush for the last couple of days and have been using canestan cream (not the pessary). Today when I wiped I had a bit of pinky brown discharge and I am panicking a bit because I am 2 years post menopause. Obviously I’ll try and see GP when I can but wondered if anyone can reassure me in the meantime? I don’t want to Google!

I would just head along to the GP to get checked out. I had a period out of nowhere after no periods for four years having been on the pill for some time.
GP had a check of my uterus and has put me down for a scan- hopefully within the next two weeks. It is something that you should just get checked from what I’ve read.

BlondeMummyto1 · 05/04/2025 09:54

It could be just from the thrush causing a sore area or irritation internally and it’s coming out via any discharge.

@jennylamb1 - thanks. Yes, I’ll make an appointment. Good luck for your scan.

@BlondeMummyto1 - thanks for replying. Yes, I’m hoping it’s something simple like that. It does feel v irritated down there!

Any bleeding post menopause needs investigation and you should be put on the 2 weeks pathway and have a scan . Usually nothing but please get checked, I had a tiny amount of bleeding and I needed an operation for a cyst,it was benign but likely to have turned cancerous had it been left.

jennylamb1 · 05/04/2025 21:30

Yes, probably completely fine, however get GP to book a scan and just get it checked. Thank your for the good wishes, I think as women we just need to be aware amongst ourselves so that we rule things out or get things early (which is a low percentage of things to be of concern still).

Update. I saw GP this morning and she has referred me for a scan. I’m v freaked out that the letter says ‘suspected cancer/urgent referral’ but she did try to assure me that the vast majority of cases are not cancerous. I’m trying to remain calm but my health anxiety has gone through the roof 😔

I heard someone say “the 2 weeks to pathway is not to find cancer it’s to rule it out”. Please don’t panic she’s doing what she should to rule out the worst and work backwards from that
i had something similar scan was clear & my problem was completely harmless and has now been sorted.

Inastatus · 08/04/2025 12:38

@hby9628 - thank you so much for replying. It’s good to hear from others who have had similar and all was ok so thanks for that.
I know I’m being a bit pathetic and need to get a grip. I’m just hoping I can be seen before Easter.

I've had this from thrush before, but also had to have some polyps removed post-menopause. Nothing sinister.

I had the same - twice.

First time, I had polyps removed - all benign. Second time, my HRT was causing the problem.

I'm about to turn 65. Polyps were removed 3 yrs ago. HRT problem was diagnosed in October.

The chances of something untoward are very low, the vast majority of the time this will be ruled out. You are absolutely doing the right thing.

I have a similar thread running as I also had a post-menopausal bleed. Lots of stories on there about similar experiences and positive outcomes.

I’m still waiting for my own results, from a blood test and hysteroscopy. Hope you get your appointment quickly and it all turns out well 💐

Inastatus · 09/04/2025 09:06

@ChristmasFairyLiquid - thank you. I’ll check out the other thread. I need positive stories! Good luck for your test results.

Update - I had a scan last week and all is fine. Womb lining is well within normal limits and everything looks fine. I’m so relieved. I’m going to ask my GP for hormonal supplements for vaginal atrophy as that could be the reason for the bleeding.
@ChristmasFairyLiquid - I hope your test results were reassuring.

@Inastatus thank you, they were - had my hysteroscopy results yesterday and all normal - phew!

Still chasing my blood test results which were to make sure my ovarian cyst isn’t sinister - 4 weeks on 😤 - but fingers crossed that’s fine too, the consultant thought the cyst and thickened lining were both the results of a rogue late ovulation. So fingers crossed.

So pleased your scan turned out clear! Such a relief isn’t it?

Inastatus · 25/04/2025 09:57

@ChristmasFairyLiquid - a huge relief! I had a little cry afterwards.
I’m pleased your results are normal too so far and fingers crossed for the blood test result. I’d have thought if it was abnormal you would have heard by now. Have you checked on the NHS App to see if it’s on there?

That’s great news, good to get things checked out and to look after yourself.

Ah! I know - it’s all very stressful.

And thank you - yes I keep checking the app but not there yet. PALS is my next step!

hby9628 · 25/04/2025 14:52

Glad all was clear. Have you asked about Cervical ectropion? That’s what mine was. I had it cauterised and I’ve had no bleeding at all since. My GP spotted mine by doing an internal examination. Not painful at all to get it sorted. Easier than a smear test.

Inastatus · 25/04/2025 21:28

@hby9628 - thanks. I haven’t heard of cervical ectropion but the consultant examined my cervix and said everything looked normal.
