I don't really have the money but I'm worried sick.
Cervical screening beginning of Feb.
Results.march.
Hpv positive mild dyskaryosis

Still not heard from my local hospital with an appointment except notification on my nhs app saying I've been referred and average waiting times is 22 weeks.

I'm worried sick about the procedure, I do have some symptoms but moslty i'm having nightmares because of it all. I'm victim of SA and thia is really triggering for me.

If I go private I will get it over and done with sooner but I can't work out how it works with costs and handing care back to nhs if needed. It seems that , privately, I have to go for a consultation before the procedure when I just want it over and done with. There's also vry few females privately. Anyone got any experience please?

I’ve had one of these. It wasn’t painful at all. Less nippy than a smear test. The worst bit is going into the room and seeing the bed and stirrups. But I just chatted to the pleasant doc and pretended I was at the dentist. If the doc is a man and even if not, in my experience there’s always a nurse present too.

I’m sorry that you’re having to think about having one privately. It shouldn’t be the case - especially as it’s often the same doctors - but I have found that private gynae is a far more pleasant process.

Perhaps ring up your closest Spire or other private hospital and ask them what the approximate cost would be. They always want an initial consultation. You might need a GP referral but you can tell the GP who you want referred to once you’ve decided ( after researching or ask Spire) . There are also one day type women’s health type clinics in London I think where you might get all done quickly. Best of luck.

im sure that you could take a friend too if you want. Anything that makes you feel better. Thinking of you.

Contacted lots of local private hospitals and all of them male consultants. Today I went to the GP and managed to explain my situation. She was wonderful and has ensured that I'll have a female practitioner (and be seen quickly)... I'm so relieved, hoping that I get some sleep tonight.

The staff are brilliant at putting you at ease. No SA but they asked if I was okay and I said I was nervous and the nurse was just brilliant. She and the dr talked through what was happening but also just made lots of small talk to distract me.

I would make sure to tell them your history, either verbally or write them a note if you don’t want to talk about it.

Private hospitals are also up front about costs. They give you a letter for your GP to pass you back to the nhs for your care and records ongoing.

Just seen your post - that’s a great outcome.

So pleased for you. All the best.

When I had mine done there was a specialist nurse there just to help you stay relaxed, mine was lovely. The practitioner doing it was also female. Please don't worry

Thank you for your kind reply, I'm breathing properly again now that the doctor has requested female practitioner.
