Rosacea - laser treatment. Good idea?

Hello I’m in my mid 50s and have rosacea. It’s not horrendous (with green makeup) but my cheeks are red and my nose makes Rudolph look like he’s going to lose his job (and I’ll get it). Actually, maybe it is quite bad and I’m playing it down. The nose is uniformly red and the cheeks more variable - you can see broken veins if you look closely.

Has anyone had laser treatment? I was at Every Skin the other day and she said 3 sessions (about £200) would make a positive difference.

Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.

I'm having this done next week. I have visible broken capillaries on my cheeks.
I'll let you know how it goes

Radiatorvalves · 25/03/2025 16:15

Oh thanks so much @Rattai I really hope it’s a success for you.

Interesting! I’ve been using soolantra for the past 4ish and haven’t noticed any difference yet (apart from some spots!). I would like to reduce the look of the broken capillaries though, and was looking at laser. That seems very good price!

Radiatorvalves · 25/03/2025 19:14

It’s a special offer (but the always have special offers!). If anyone has experience of Every Skin as opposed to Harley St etc, it would be really good to hear from you.

I had laser treatment prescribed on the NHS some years ago. It was done at a private clinic in Edgbaston but I don't know the name of it, sorry. It wasn't effective at all.
I've since had a couple of sessions at the local salon where I have electrolysis but that hasn't worked either.
I've tried azeleic acid cream which refined my skin but didn't help the redness; antibiotics, steroid cream - nothing has helped me and my nose and cheeks are very red. I've had rosacea since I was a young teen and the only time my complexion looked good was when I was pregnant with my son (can't do that now Grin). I hate wearing makeup but feel I look awful without it. Its quite depressing but for me, I don't think it's going to ever improve.

Watching with interest. I had a decent result with Skin&Me prescriptions but the price went up. And now having some success with Rosex 0.75%.
the more diligent I am with making sure my skin is clean but with gentle cleansers / pillow cases changed every couple of days/ exercise to sweat it out/ lots of water and some sunshine the better it is. I’m also finding a low sugar diet helps which is very annoying but makes sense from an inflammation point of view

I had two sessions of Vasculase laser treatment at £90 a time on my broken veins on cheeks and nose and had no improvement whatsoever, very disappointing.

How did you get on with your treatment and what type of laser was it @Rattai ?

I have read about veinwave but that seems expensive, has anyone had that or anything else with success?

Rattai · 08/04/2025 19:14

So I had my first session today.
It was thermocoagulation.
I must say I'm a likely underwhelmed right now ... There are lots of veins still visible and my cheeks look red and sore in patches. But I do see that some are gone
But I was told to leave it at least 48 hours for the redness to fade etc
I'll keep you posted!

superstar63 · 08/04/2025 19:36

@Rattai Thermocoagulation sounds a bit like they all do, fine needle heats up and seals or dissolves the vein. I hope you get some improvement over the next couple of days, please do report back and also was it expensive?

I have just googled and it seems thermocoagulation is the same as veinwave which is what i am thinking of trying so fingers crossed it has worked for you!

Rattai · 08/04/2025 20:27

It was £200 so not cheap.
I really hope it does work.
I've thing to note is that they have a 500 needle prick limit per visit so if you have a lot of veins you will not get it done in one session.

DancingNotDrowning · 08/04/2025 20:33

I had IPL for redness on my face, 6 sessions total waste of time and money.

AFrankExchangeofViews · 08/04/2025 20:51

I had IPL did nothing for rosacea, but Soolantra (ivermectin) was a game changer, got rid of it almost immediately. I now have it included in my night cream from Klira and rarely get any flare ups or spots from it.

Eyesopenwideawake · 08/04/2025 20:53

I had it done a couple of years ago, well worth the money.

@Eyesopenwideawake - What was it that you had done that was well worth the money?

Whosaysyoucanthaveitall · 08/04/2025 21:13

I found that the right diet has eventually given me clear skin, which I never thought possible. Basically anti inflammatory - for me it’s dairy, fried foods and booze

Laser treatment for broken veins on my face.

DamnedIfIDoDamnedIfIDont · 08/04/2025 21:30

I had rosacea and my dermatologist told me often its caused by a mite thats why Soolantra (ivermectin) works! It kills the mites causing the rosacea
you must take it for more than three weeks because the mites are killed pretty quickly but the larvae they laid in your skin hatch 3 weeks later so ideally take it for a month. Im totally clear after years of suffering with rosacea. GP did give me a steroid cream which didn’t work as it obviously doesn’t kill mites. I went privately to see my dermatologist. Worth every penny

Rattai · 15/04/2025 10:25

So I thought I'd come back and update you
Most of my veins are now completely gone!! They have faded away over the last few days. There are only two ( the most obvious) that I can still see - I'm debating whether to go for the 2nd session or not. I'll keep you posted!!

Fagli · 15/04/2025 13:49

That’s amazing!! How was your skin after the session? I’ve heard people have red blotchy skin for weeks and were recommended to do it over the winter. I’m not sure the Soolantra has done much for me, took it for over a month. I’d love to get rid of the veins around my nose. How much did the treatment cost?

Rattai · 15/04/2025 14:38

My face was red for at least 3 or 4 days but nothing that couldn't be toned down with cc cream ( although they recommend no makeup for 48 hours).
My face felt hot for a day or so but it was just noticeable not really uncomfortable.
The treatment was £200
