Loss of pubic hair

Hi,

Just wonder if anyone else has had strange things happen down below, I've lost pubic hair and having periods it seems back to every two weeks or maybe I've had my last one.

I've read menopause can be connected to this (but I'm not there just yet in still having periods so don't consider myself at full menopause as periods definitely haven't disappeared for a year) and also see it connected to thyroid conditions (of which I have as under-active, diagnosed in childhood)

I am doing weight loss injections albeit by no means losing the weight fast so trying to rule other things out, if this is some sort of odd reaction to the injections as I had seen reports of people losing hair. I also take HRT at the lowest dose for a fibroid under the GP and am a good 18 months away from when I can be tested formally for menopause.

I know people losing their hair (head/body) who are on the injections. They aren’t losing weight fast but they aren’t eating as they should. Hair loss can be caused by malnutrition, low iron & other vitamins. What is your diet like in general since you starting WLI?

Really good. Jacket potatoes with baked beans, chicken breast with half a plate of vegetables, wholemeal pasta, I can get through half a loaf of bread in a week which I've cut down from getting through what use to a loaf in the past in a week, high fibre cereals, fruit, full whole meals. Nothing is excluded. No way can I get to be this I'm only having half a jacket or half of bowl of noodles in an entire day sort of gal. Water nearly 2 litres just no vitamin supplements.

I get how serious it is because my diabetic brother with other problems has ended up with diabetic ketoacidosis where the nhs should never have offered mounjaro to him and it got so bad he could barely tolerate it.

Fortunately we're not on the same injection brand but I'm seriously beginning to wonder. I also get into a pool 5 times a week and it dawns on me I wonder if that could have an effect on down there, could the chemicals used in the pool be so harsh it has stripped me. I've lost many a swimming cossie when they go baggy wonder if its that.

I've requested the doctors surgery consider running a thyroid check but yet to hear anything, thank-you deeply for listening.

I lost around 1/3 of the hair on my head and quite a lot of public hair on the jabs. My GP said it’s a very common side effect

TaupeMember · 18/03/2025 20:52

One third of the hair on your head?

Bloody hell, are they worth it?

Mingenious · 18/03/2025 20:54

My pubes are sparse now I’m in peri, I’m 45. I used to have a right bush 🤣 the hairs on my legs have pretty much stopped growing too.

Edited to say I’ve still got a full head of hair and am not on WL injections.

I’m on hrt (including testosterone) and my bush has grown back with a vengeance! It was looking sparse for a few years there. I also have underactive thyroid and lost a lot of hair on my head, plus eyebrows, leg hair etc due to that but when medicated properly my head hair and eyebrows are ok. Definitely push for some blood tests to rule out anything easily fixed.

You don’t have to be at the point of ‘menopause’ to take hrt, you can have it in the lead up as your hormones are dwindling over the years leasing up your cessation of your periods.

Have your iron levels checked as low ferritin ( stored iron) can cause hair loss. But more likely to be loss of oestrogen from peri. BTW there is no true test for menopause, as hormones fluctuate so much in the lead up but as @SnowflakeSmasher86 says you can take hrt on symptoms alone.
