Aluminium deodrant and shaving...

Talking to some friends who were shocked to hear I

Use disposable razors to shave my armpits
And use antiperspirant after shaving

I don't think it's that strange, but I felt quite the weirdo after their shocked reaction! 😳

Apparently shaving makes the aluminium more likely to enter the body which i suppose I understand, I've never thought about. Ive since read there's no link to breast cancer, more speculation.

Anyway, am I the only one who shaves then uses antiperspirant? Is this a big health no-no? Should I be switching? I've read a few posts on here where a lot don't shave, so I suppose I'm wondering more about those that do shave whether they avoid aluminium? Are my friends bonkers or do they have a point?

Your friends do have a point but I am pretty sure you're part of the majority here - you only have to look at the shelves in the supermarket to know most women are still using aluminium antiperspirant and I'm sure most women do shave their armpits.

I'm quite clued up on stuff like this. I don't use non-stick pans in the kitchen, I don't use air fresheners, am gradually moving over to more natural cosmetics etc.

However, I'm still in your club of using disposable razors and Mitchum deodorant. I just haven't got round to addressing this yet so I'm hoping for some helpful responses to your thread about a truly effective deodorant to rival Mitchum in effectiveness but without the aluminium...

@INeedNewShoes I think the concern is shaving AND then use of aluminium. So normal use of antiperspirant without broken skin is fine, but shaving breaks the skin increasing the absorption.

I'm like you, I'm trying to have a healthier lifestyle and find a nice balance. Ive just read you're supposed to wait 48 hours after shaving to use antiperspirant though! I'm sure no one adheres to this! How would someone randomly know this?!

There's no way I could go 48 hours without an antiperspirant, I'd stink. If I die, I die, at least I won't smell bad!

I get really sore skin if I put anything on my armpits straight after shaving, I usually shave them in the evening and go without until the following morning. Although by coincidence I have an aluminium free antiperspirant.

I don’t tend to shave my pits that often. But on the odd chance that I do I just use a regular razor but I don’t use spray antiperspirants. I much prefer roll on ones. But I’m sure what you’re doing is what most people do so I wouldn’t worry about it.
