Pill for heavy periods

MoominGang · 03/03/2025 22:45

I've had heavy periods for quite some time to the point that I became really anemic and decided to do something about it. GP suggested the pill or coli. I'm now on day 8 of taking the pill and have been spotting all the time. Has anyone experienced similar? Did it stop?
So fed up right now.

Did he refer you for any tests ?

MoominGang · 04/03/2025 07:14

Only had my bloods done which showed iron deficiency anemia.

Which pill are you taking?

dementedpixie · 04/03/2025 07:15

Have you had a gynae referral?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/03/2025 08:12

Second a gynae referral. If you have the means to go private and pay for an initial gynae consultation do so.

You need to establish the root cause as well as treating the symptoms. Possible causes of such heavy bleeding include fibroids, endometriosis and hormone imbalances of progesterone and oestrogen.

You can buy Transexamic acid for heavy periods from the pharmacy now, I saw it the other day. Not even over the counter, it was on a promotional shelf

I started taking Cerelle for heavy periods. I had irregular bleeding for around 3 months, but then my periods completely stopped and I’ve had nothing for over 3 years.

The spotting will stop.

Been on the pill 6 many decades. Best thing I ever did. I had the worst periods before that.

Blackkittenfluff · 05/03/2025 02:57

...for many decades....

MoominGang · 05/03/2025 17:07

At the moment it feels like constant period so improvement from looking like a murder scene but frustrating in the long run.
I'll get myself booked for another appointment.

It will ease off. Your uterus has to drain first.
When you start your second packet of pills, it should be much better.
