Endometriosis surgery recovery

I found out a few weeks ago I have deep infiltrating endometriosis and adenomyosis. I had no symptoms at all until a few months ago when my periods suddenly became very heavy and painful, with some pain in between too.

I had a couple of back to back pregnancies and breastfeeding and doctor thinks these masked any symptoms but something obviously happened to trigger it all.

I’m leaning towards surgical management rather than going on dienogest as I’m not keen on stopping periods, especially as we’ve not ruled out any more children. But equally, having surgery when I have a 1 and 3 year old makes me worry about recovery.

Can I ask for experiences around recovery? How people found it, and how long it took in particular? I have adhesions around my ovaries and to my bowel so I think it’s quite extensive but equally I have no idea how normal that is.

Thank you!

I have both and have had adhesions burnt away a couple of times. I would say to get over the anaesthetic is a few days as you'll have gas pumped into your abdomen and I was signed off for two weeks.

I wouldn't say surgery is something you want to have regularly given your kiddies are small.

I didn't have the coil as I had yet to start my family but between ops my periods were horrific and got worse as time went on. Really heavy, flooding and pain all month long. It's on my bladder and bowel so going to the loo was excruciating.

Ended up not being able to have children naturally due to adhesions preventing implantation and realising our one miracle via IVF was all we could manage I went on progesterone at my six week check.

For the first time in years I was free from the awful symptoms and no periods. You can stop taking it if you decide on another child but it all depends on how much you can manage with kids and whatever unknown your periods are going to do.

Good luck
