Bleeding after menopause

Hi everyone, I’m just after a bit of advice really.
I’m 55 and had my last period aged around 40. I’ve had endometriosis for years and tried HRT for a short while but didn’t get on with it.
Last night, I started bleeding - fresh red blood - very lightly and it’s still there today. I wondered if this is normal? Has it happened to others? I was thinking of going to the GP on Monday just to get checked.

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

I had this. Turned out to be vaginal atrophy. Now have oestrogen cream which has helped.

Thanks @Girasole02

You do need to let the GP know and you will be referred on the 2 week pathway. This happened to me recently. They did an internal scan to measure the thickness of my uterine lining and they like to get a view of both ovaries too, which can be tricky post meno as they are atrophied. I had to have 2 scans as they couldn't see both ovaries the first time.

In my case the person doing the scan (which was done in community) was able to reassure me that uterine lining looked fine and there would be no further action. I assume had they seen anything of concern they would have told me I would need follow up.

The scan was uncomfortable and a bit undignified as it is done via vaginal probe, but the staff were very kind.

Thanks, @DrAnnaTaylorRyan. I’ll call the GP on Monday.

As pp said you'll be put on the 2 week pathway when you go to the GP, they always do post menopausal bleeding. It happened to me a couple of years ago, 6 years after last period, had a very small amount of bright red blood for a week.
I had an internal scan which showed a very thick uterine lining, then had a hysteroscopy and biopsy. I had a fibroid, all biopsies normal and they could find no reason for the bleeding and I was discharged.
But it's very important to go to the GP just in case it's uterine cancer. Consultant told me if the results did show that, it was very treatable by hysterectomy which in most cases is the only treatment necessary.

I had this recently too, was seen quickly by both GP and gynae dept, I had the internal scan and a biopsy which was clear (got the results after a few days, less than a week), they said that if I get any more bleeding they will do a hysteroscopy.

You must get checked out, you'll be out on the 2 week pathway. When I had it ,it was a cyst which needed removing. Any post menopausal bleeding should be checked. Likely nothing sinister but you do need checking.

Thanks, everyone. I am definitely calling the GP first thing Monday to get seen.

I'm glad you are calling the doctor. My friend has this and needed treatment. Don't let them fob you off.

Jolly good. So glad I did. Had a hysterectomy within a month. And a super recovery!
Good luck. Don't be too nervous. Xx
