C-Section Wound Not Healing

MommaBee1 · 20/02/2025 22:29

Around a week after my c-section, my wound became open and infected. It was red, sore to touch and oozing with pus and blood. I have been given 4 courses of antibiotics and it hasn't helped. It's now been 3 months since I've given birth and my incision is still open, sore and bleeding. I've seen two different doctors since I've finished all my antibiotics and the advice given is to just keep it dry and clean. It isn't showing any signs of getting better at all and it's difficult trying to tend to my baby because the pain is in a really uncomfortable place and there's constant friction. Has anyone else experienced this and should I seek further medical advice?

This is not normal 3 months post CS no
Is there any offensive discharge?
Do you have a layer of overhang perhaps interfering with healing?
If so have a regular rest on the bed and hold this bit (overhang) up to allow some air
If you think about the location of the wound it's a warm moist environment and therefore ideal breeding ground for bacteria
Do you have pain also?
All signs of infection.
Perhaps ask to see a different GP and ask for a swab to see if and what bugs might be growing. This will also identify what antibiotics might be needed
Ask for a face to face appointment with your health visitor who will have taken over the care of you from your midwife. She or he will help navigate next steps for you.
It's not normal at all no and Im sorry you have this issue

Hi OP

How awful for you. I would seek further advice because I think that’s a long time.

Never had a C section, but having an open wound not healing for that length of time doesn’t sound good.

Do you have a HV? They have probably seen more C sections than the GPs had hot dinners, so could be more useful when seeking an opinion.

Hope you get this resolved.

Thanks for your response. I don't have an overhang luckily, so I feel there's plenty of air getting to it. They done a swab on the pus but said there was nothing abnormal. I don't think it's infected as such, just very stingy and uncomfortable as well as some bleeding. It might be a better idea to speak to the health visitor instead!

Hello,

I'm going to speak to the HV and see what they think. Thanks for your response.

The community nurses attached to your GP practice are the ones to see as they are experts in wound care. Hope you get it sorted soon because it must be absolutely miserable for you.

Could it be a stitch sinus? I think you need to go back and insist on getting it looked at again.
