Feel like I'm being fobbed off with a cool

Hi everyone. I've been having gynae pain for about four years now. Paid for a private appointment last year as it was getting worse. Consultant did an examination and a hysteroscopy there and then and I had a pelvic scan. All were clear but he did say that I have some scarring from my c section and he could see this has caused my bladder to be attached to my uterus.

Ive been taking the mini pill for many years but the problems seem to be worse when I come off it so I've just stayed on it, but that's not making much of a difference any longer. At my last appointment the consultant told me it could be endometriosis and was quite insistent about me having a coil. I've had no other investigations other than a more recent scan which again was clear. I know endometriosis doesn't get picked up on ultrasound but I'm not convinced that's the problem. I don't get periods as I'm on the pill and I'm worried I might have more scar tissue that is causing the pain. Also the pain is throughout what would be my cycle, sometimes discomfort, sometimes very very bad. I ended up in an and e once who sent me home with oramorph for it.

I feel like I'm being fobbed off with a coil, which although I'm not totally against, I'm also not overly keen on. I've heard good and bad things but also that if it doesn't agree with me it can be a nightmare to get an appointment to have it taken out.

I feel like if I say I don't want one they'll feel im being difficult. He's mentioned having it as it could do away with the new for a laparoscopy but what if I end up needing one anyway? It feels like kicking the can down the line.

Has anyone had a coil in similar circumstances?

I would seek a second opinion. You need to determine the cause as well as treating the symptoms and I would not rule out endometriosis here. You need a surgeon prepared to perform a laparoscopy, that is the usual way endo is diagnosed. More a coil is cheap and that’s why it’s also been offered.

Adhesions are sticky strands that tether organs together and no drug treatment is effective on those. These have to be removed surgically.

Thanks, that's exactly what I think. They need to have a look and see what's going on. If it's adhesions causing the pain then that's what needs to be treated, I don't want them to get worse and end up with it being more serious.

I was in a similar situation about 12 years ago. I had a lapracopic investigation of my abdomen where they found scar tissue from my c-section. They snipped the scar tissue there and then and solved the problem. Luckily I was able to get this done through my health insurance. If you’re being told you have scar tissue I’d push for an investigation so you can get it resolved.

I"m going to push for the laparoscopy when I see him. I think he's keen for me to avoid surgery but I'd rather know what's going on than try something that might work and then be no better.
