Hormonal leg pain?

For as long as I can remember I have occasionally suffered from leg pain. Its only really in the last year or so I have realised that this particular pain seems to be around the time of menstruation. I'm currently going through perimenopause and on HRT but this leg pain has become increasingly worse. I had the mirena coil fitted because my periods were getting so painful, in the hope my periods would stop but its been about 9 months now and they have not. Sometimes periods will last 10 days which means I have extruciating leg pain every day for 10 days. For clarity, the pain isn't joint pain but a general 'ache' mainly in the front thigh area. Just wondered if anyone else has had this?

I have pain that starts in the area you'd expect but moves down through the upper legs during cramping. What you're describing sounds awful.

I have this! Mine starts after my period, for just over a week. It starts in the upper thigh and is absolutely excruciating, so much so that I can't sleep.

I have been to the doctor and I had scans last month, nothing was found except for slight subluxation of my hip.

@FcukTheDay I'm so sorry to hear that. Mine is definitely 'during' my period I've noticed but can drag on a bit after too. The only thing that seems to ease the pain is co-codomol (which you can't take too often) and a hot bath (although the pain comes right back again). I've read exercise is supposed to help but they say that about everything and I do body pump 3 times a week so that definitely does not help!

I got sciatica every time I had my period - it was caused by endometriosis. Had a laparoscopy, they removed endo, and all good.

Yes, I've always suffered this too, the pain radiates down your thighs. I'm well into peri now and don't menstruate much so thankfully it doesn't happen much anymore. Definitely menstrual though. I took ponstan prescribed by my GP. Not ideal to take so many though but it was the only thing that made the pain bearable. Exercise didn't help, I used to do body pump religiously for years too.
What made mine worse though was progesterone, my own makes me feel bad enough but I can't tolerate contraception/hrt as it makes the period pain 10 x worse (and In my case causes excessive bleeding). Your mirena might be contributing.

@Itsfiiiine Since getting the coil, my cramps are much less painful but the leg pain is worse so don't feel that much better off. Not heard of Ponstan so will look to see my Gp I think.

Painful periods are not normal and in addition you should not put up with it. What you could be describing here is the sciatic nerve being inflamed due to endometriosis. You need to see a gynae.

Ponstan aka mefanemic acid tablets are unlikely to be of any benefit here

@AttilaTheMeerkat thank you. I will make another GP appointment.
