Awful gyneacologist experience, still in pain, Any ideas?

To cut a long story short, I came off the POP 8 months ago, around 2 months ago i developed an intense pressure/pulling/pinching feeling in my lower left abdomen/groin that hasnt gone away since. Nauseous every day too. Cycles went from 30 days to 45+ days, random spotting, when i am bleeding its f*cking agony with cramps and backache. Went to gp, internal examination made her concerned about my cervix, referred on suspected cancer refferal to hospital.

Seen this week, the gyneacologist just belittled me for not being on the pill and not wanting to go back on it and told me I probably just have IBS (despite asking 0 questions about my bowels..which I have no issues with). Cervix fine, just an ectroption. Dismissive doctor just told me I really should just go back on pill if my symptoms have arrised since coming off it. She internally felt my ovaries etc, fine apparently. very loosely suggested at end that my symptoms are in line with Endometriosis but that if i dont want to go on the pill she cant help much.

Im still in constant pain with this feeling of pressure in my lower left abdomen. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms or have suggestions of what could be going on..what to do next? Sort of just feel like my very real experience and daily pain has been completely fobbed off.

Did you have a trans vaginal scan? Would they not have been worried about ovarian cysts?

This sounds awful and I'm so sorry for you OP.

I'd be asking GP to book you for a scan.

Ilovelowry · 15/02/2025 18:50

Also, the Pop made me suicidal. I'd push back hard on that. Why on earth is it in your best interests to be on the pill?

spikefaithbuffy · 15/02/2025 19:07

Sounds like what I had

I said to the GP I think I have endo. She offered the pill and said nothing else they could do

Changed doctors years later, went in with ovary pain. Totally different experience and referred for scans, bloods etc
Perhaps if they had done this at the previous GP they might have found I am covered in stage 4 endo, all over my bladder and bowel and ovaries with adenomyosis and now need extensive surgery...,.

No, I was promised by GP that Gyneacology would offer this, when i asked at the hospital they bluntly told me 'no you don't need one'... she felt my ovaries with her finger internally and said they're fine.

I meant to add on this post that I am leaving the UK to go travelling for a year in less than a month so can't even chase this up properly... awful timing

yes!! this!! I was on the POP for 7 years and it wasnt until i came off it that i realised quite how much of a heavy cloud had been sat over me for years. I told her this and her response was a very sarcastic 'what and it took you 7 years to realise that did it?'.... I am so frustrated by the pill pushing that i have experienced. 2 yrs ago at an appointment with GP i said that i think my pill might be messing with my head and they literally told me no, its unlikely. Like it isnt atall?? Its on the side effects.

I think because Im in my early 20s doctors just view you as irresponsible if you dont want to take hormonal BC

Oh bloody hell im so sorry that was your experience, that is awful.

Having your symptoms denied is so rubbish. May I ask what your early symptoms were? I have many symptoms of endo apart from extremely extremely heavy bleeding.

How do you manage the pain? Im going travelling for a year in less than a month and am so stressed, this has come at a terrible time

That's a very unprofessional way to be treated and spoken to.

Please make a complaint.

My gynea team are amazing and would never, ever, speak to a patient this way.

I'm sorry you've had this experience.

As a woman in my early 20s and this being my first experience of visiting gyneacology/having internal examinations done I am pretty horrified but sadly know this dismissal is all too common.

She showed 0 interest in helping me or making me feel comfortable. Being belittled for not wanting to take a pill that made me suicidal whilst being half naked with my legs spread isnt a very dignified experience

I am shocked you haven’t had an ultrasound to rule out a cyst. Very quick non invasive test.

Yep so am I... I requested one, was guaranteed it would happen, then on arrival told no I dont need one...

Do you mean genuinely constant?

I have significant endo, ovarian cysts, adenomyois with a great deal of pain. Frequently in pain. I would never say I have had consistent day in day out pain in the same spot. I can be most days of the month but it’s more a cramping pain that comes and goes. Sometimes similar to labour (and sometimes more painful).

I just wonder is if it’s absolute constant and nausea that it may be something else that needs investigating. I would want ovarian cancer ruled out.

Unfortunately, I have always found that scans and exams are not usually helpful (except to see ovarian cysts and adenomyosis) and I usually need a surgery to look and treat. Luckily the gynaecologists have always been proactive.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience. That must have been really awful. Please don’t give up trying to find help.

Ilovelowry · 15/02/2025 20:39

This is appalling OP.

Def make a complaint.
But in the meantime can you access any private care? You can't go travelling without this being resolved, you really don't need ovarian torsion half way across the world from your family.

A TVS would be a couple of hundred pounds. Your GP can do an 'open referral' and you can call your local private hospitals and see if anyone can fit you in. Or if your parents have private healthcare they can access the GP via that who can make a referral.

Apologies if this is out of the question.

DivergentDilema · 15/02/2025 20:41

If you are going ahead with travelling, don't forget to inform your travel insurance of everything that's been happening with you medically.

mamaison · 15/02/2025 20:42

Omg just reading you didn’t have a scan!

When I need referring back to my gynae after a 12 month gap, my GP will send me to a women’s ultrasound tech appointment at the hospital (in the same place as pregnancy unit). I will get a good scan there.

But the gynaecologists will always do another long scan too. Often getting the lead consultant to come in and have a look too, (I’m lucky to be at the top London hospitals for my local care).

Sandcastles24 · 15/02/2025 20:42

sorry you are having this experience and the timing is so bad.
I wouldn’t want to go travelling without getting this sorted. First in case it is something serious that shouldn’t be left untreated. Second because you need travel insurance and having something like this non diagnosed will screw up your insurance and if you need to claim it may be refused

honestly if you have the money and want answers fast it is possible to book a private consultant appointment. Might be a couple of hundred pounds for an initial appointment

i have never had to do this but i think you can contact your consultant by email and ask why they are not concerned. For example how have they ruled out it is not a cyst that has twisted and other possibilities? What other options are there to investigate and resolve the pain?
if you don’t get a satisfactory answer you can go back to the GP and request a second opinion but that would take ages

spikefaithbuffy · 16/02/2025 00:10

@Unravellingfronds symptoms
Always had heavy painful periods
Started getting ovary pain
Day 3 of period becoming more painful
Weird bowel movement pain
Constant UTI type feeling like I always needed to go
I commented to the woman fitting my coil it was fine as I was on day 6 of my period so still cramping and she said Confused you know periods aren't meant to be painful the whole time?

It's quite severe now and I usually have pain most of the month varying from mild cramps to pass me the morphine and ring 999 type pain
I use a tens machine, heating pad, be you period patches, naproxen, paracetamol, dihydrocodeine and oramorph

spikefaithbuffy · 16/02/2025 00:12

Oh should say my ovary pain was very consistent, same spot and type of pain. I have a cyst on it (a chocolate one) and my ovaries are kissing as tied with scar tissue

The other pain is variable, I can be fine one minute and not fine the next

Same here.
I'm riddled with endo. Couldn't tolerate the POP so I get about 8-9 days out of a 31 day cycle pain/cramp/bloat free.

Currently trying to convince a surgeon to take the lot out and be done with it, but it seems no one wants to do that if you're sub-40 😩

spikefaithbuffy · 16/02/2025 01:05

@SareBear87 I'm 40, they said a hysterectomy wasn't a cure

Have agreed on
Excision of all endo
Removal of cysts and possibly one ovary
Separating my ovaries, bladder, bowel etc
Mirena coil
