Hysteroscopy

MN has been a real source of comfort and also fear when I've searched up or posted recently, so id like to post about my very recent positive Hysteroscopy experience.

I was scheduled for it as my fertility consultant had concerns that I had developed scarring from previous procedures after pregnancy loss. My periods have become lighter and as my username suggests, I'd like to try for another with our two remaining embryos.

I was told to arrive at 8am and luckily for me I was first on the list. I was listed for a hysteroscopy with myosure should any adhesions be found. I had to provide a urine sample for pregnancy test, I was given a gown, 2 paracetamol, an anti sickness tablet and also to my absolute joy (not) a diclofenic suppository.

I was taken to theatre around 9.30, asked to remove my underwear then sat in a chair with my legs in stirrups, that was then raised to what felt like about 8 foot in the air 😂 Now comes the worst part, the consultant sat in from of me and I was given 4 local anaesthetic needles into my cervix. Gas and air was offered but like a trooper I refused ....don't be a fool like I was !! But that really was the worst part, after that water is used to expand the uterus and the camera went in. I felt mild cramping at worst. Luckily for me there was no scarring but biopsies were taken as standard procedure, but they didnt hurt. And that was it ! I stayed for around 45 minutes afterwards had a cuppa and some biscuits and was then sent home. I did feel a bit sleepy the rest of the day, not sure if it was a side effect of the medication or a come down from the adrenaline. I was so nervous.

This was 2 days ago, I've had very light bleeding which is now brown and slight discomfort which I'm monitoring but it's nothing paracetamol hasn't been able to sort out.

If like me you are searching up, I hope this puts your mind at ease a bit. It's obviously a very individual experience that will depend on your own circumstances but trust the process, you will be offered plenty of pain relief if they feel you may need it. I've read that quite a few people have it under GA. In my case this wouldve been totally unnecessary so advocate for yourself if you don't want GA as the recovery will be much longer. I was in a waiting room with 4 other women who were all in for different reasons, fibroids, polyps, masses, heavy bleeding, all were having local. 2 were told they'd need to come back and have GA as their cases were too complex so like I say it is very individual depending on the severity of your case.

Good luck to all xx

I too have had 3 or 4. Not fun (although super interesting) but totally manageable. Like you just fao posters searching every woman has different pain thresholds and conditions.
