HRT and weight gain

I went on HRT a year ago (Oestrogen and Utrogestan) and I have gained over a stone. My GP says it's not the HRT, but I did gain weight on the combined pill in my twenties, and nothing else has changed with my lifestyle. Anyone else experienced this?

Can I ask if you managed to shift it? I've tried the usual go-to for me which is eating less and moving around more, and nothing... feels like it's just stuck!

Well you're perimenopausal clearly so whatever worked for you before isn't likely to be as effective now. Menopause does slow the metabolism and reduce muscle mass so we can eat the same amount as before and slowly gain weight. If you want to lose weight you'll have to be disciplined about calories and ensure you're in a calorie deficit. I also recommend lifting weights to preserve muscle mass. It's better than cardio for menopausal women.

I'm not perimenopausal. I went into medical menopause four years ago after surgery and gained no weight at all. I started HRT last year because my mother had osteoporosis and heart disease, so I wanted to protect my bones and heart. I might try weights though, thanks.
