I’m tempted to buy one of those caster oil packs for my ovarian cyst. Has anybody else got any experience using this for cysts do they work? Thanks 😊

How would it help? I have never heard of that for cysts.
It's a laxative

Kayannie123 · 09/02/2025 10:20

@Starlight7080 ive heard multiple people use it it’s not just for laxative. Google it

What type of cyst do you have OP or do you mean PCOS? I had a 5cm one discovered when I had a scan post MC. I was told its very common for them to come and go and most woman wouldn't even know. Mine had gone on its own by the time I'd had the next scan.

I have googled caster oil for cysts, as also had never heard of its use other than as a laxative. This is what I found:

There are no definitive studies that prove castor oil helps with dissolving ovarian cysts or reducing ovarian cysts’ size. However, there are a few research studies and years of anecdotal data that suggest it might have benefits for women with PCOS.

Castor oil packs are very trendy atm. But I doubt they do much, if anything.

@JC03745 no I have large simple cyst on ovary I’m having it out this year but it hurts. I’ve heard people recommend it, it’s not just for laxative can me used for inflammation too this is what I found.

Highly unlikely to do anything except waste your money!

DearOwl · 09/02/2025 10:53

What a load of nonsense. Sorry op but just don't

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 09/02/2025 10:54

Don’t waste your money. Google Castor oil and any physical or mental health issues and you’ll find something that says that castor oil is the answer.

I'd be going back to your GP or surgeon, explain you are in pain and what the surgery brought forward.

ODFOx · 09/02/2025 11:50

To stimulate your lymphatic and circulatory systems, drink water and exercise every day and have a lovely massage whenever you feel like a boost. Loading your system with more fats to clear isn't going to help.
And talk to your GP about pain relief.

have you actually looked at the website from which that screenshot is taken? It's fascinating (not in a good way!).

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/02/2025 14:30

What do you actually think it would do?

KnutsfordCityLimits · 09/02/2025 14:39

There are some suggestions that it can change hormonal cycles and help with PCOS, but the only research study I could find on a quick look was on rats, which may or may not indicate it may also have an effect on humans, further research would need to be done. So actually, the suggestion may not be as leftfield as it initially sounds! But no guarantees it would work jbamsonline.org/index.php/home/article/view/47/39

A lot of the responses here are quite negative (not a criticism, it's important to get honest answers!) But I just wanted to throw in my experience with it.

I started using it as I suspect I have a blocked fallopian tube, am TTC and also have been having painful heavy periods. I began rubbing it on my lower abdomen and placing a hot water bottle on top for the first couple of weeks of my cycle. It absolutely hasn't been a miracle cure for anything granted, BUT it has changed my periods. I don't even feel them coming now as there's no cramping and they are lighter (a more normal flow). Whether this is improving anything on the inside who knows?! It's low cost, low risk, so worth a go anyway compared to some fads and has made periods far more manageable for me. Definitely does something, I'm just not sure what šŸ˜„
