Thicking of the womb

ch145 · 01/02/2025 08:55

Hi ladies
I'm coming 56 this year, I was recently put on HRT in October and had a bit of bleeding in December. I was then took for an ultrasound and a vagnial on and the results came back I have thicking of the womb and they want to do take my bloods. I have been referred on to gyeacoloist

I'm just wondering had this happen to any one else?

The gynae will probably want to do a biopsy of the womb. To check for endometrial cancer. They will do this at the gynae appt. As you’re on HRT I
dont think the bleed is as worrying as if you weren’t. But it’s important they check it all
out, and if there are any issues it is then dealt with quickly.
Hope someone else with some more experience can help too.

I'm a totally mess. Just thinking the worst. Would the two ultrasounds show if there was any cyst or anything else going on in there. All the doctor said was the womb is thick didn't even tell me how much

I had exactly this same situation in 2021 aged 55, although was not taking HRT. The ultrasound radiographer rather unhelpfully said "the womb lining is excessively thick for a woman of your age, actually a woman of any age", and the scan showed a couple of large polyps. I was referred to a gynae, but as we were still operating with Covid restrictions it was weeks before I had the appointment for biopsy during which I terrified myself Googling uterine hyperplasia etc. I worried myself silly, but all was absolutely fine, and subsequently found out how very common this is in menopausal women - so many people I spoke to afterwards had either had this experience themselves, or knew someone who had. Difficult as it is, try not to worry, try not to get lost down Internet rabbit holes. X

Aw thank you so much for the reply. I hope all I well with you 😊

I have seen a lot of people writing up the same experiences too. It's crazy what us women have to go through xx

I'm the same age,but with no HRT taken. I had the same thing, and episode of minor spotting 2 years after my last period,so was put on the 2 week pathway.
I had 2 scans last week and an outpatients appt with a gynae nurse this morning, where she told me that the scan showed my womb lining was thicker than it should be,so I was offered a hysteroscopy either there and then, or next week with a GA.Despite being terrified and crying,I opted for there and then, even though there was no pressure from the nurse and she said as I had a tilted womb,it might be difficult . I couldn't stand the anxiety of not knowing any longer.
It was absolutely fine,BUT I had taken 2 x 30mg co codamol tablets prior to my appointment,as I find any internal messing about painful. Apparently,co codamol and G&A have a sedative effect,so I self sedated! She was able to tell me there and then that she couldn't see anything sinister, which was a huge relief. She took a biopsy, just to be 100% sure, and I have to go for a blood test,as the scan showed a 5.5cm cyst on my ovary that I knew nothing about.
The nurses were shocked that my GP hadn't explained that I'd probably have to have a hysteroscopy, and that I'd not received an information leaflet explaining it all in the post. They were so apologetic, but it wasn't their fault.
I would take the strongest painkillers you can before your appointment, and make sure the gas and air is in your hand ready. I was lucky that my nurses were lovely and very experienced, and that I'd taken pain relief prior, I really wouldn't have liked that experience without either.
Good luck.

I've recently had this. Chose to have a hysteroscopy under a general that confirmed endometrial cancer, Then followed a full hysterectomy weeks later. I've needed brachytherapy as the cancer had spread and I will have regular checkups with my oncologist for a while. Although it was awful for a few months I feel fine now and really positive. Good luck. Lots of threads here where quite a few women have shared their stories

ch145 · 05/02/2025 14:20

I had my bloods done yesterday for ca125. And making myself sick with worry, I can't stop googling. It's the worst place to go to.. honestly so worried

Aww *ch145 I had the same bloods done today,so I know exactly where you are coming from. I'm keeping away from Google and telling myself that if the worst comes to the worst,at least ovaries can be whipped out and I won't miss them. My blooming reproductive system has never given me anything but trouble,I've bled between periods all my life, bled with both my successful pregnancies, had years of infertility, painful smears, then diagnostic surgeries, then an ectopic. Now post menopausal bleeds and an ovarian cyst.45 years of reproductive hassle and it's not over yet!
I'm here, holding your virtual hand. We'll get through this!

Awww! I have an other thread, the other ladies are really helpful.

I had a scan done and was only told about the thickening of the womb. Nothing about the ovaries, so hoping they are just having a good check up.

I was 39 when I went to menopause and was put on a tablet was recently changed in October and ever since then having trouble so hoping they put me back on it. I'm on HRT patches.

It does sound like it's the HRT.
The nurse I saw said that my cyst doesn't look suspicious ,but it seems that it's routine to have them tested after menopause.
I've got to have mine rescanned in 3 months to see if it's reducing,if not, they'll take it out. I won't be sorry as DD1 ended up in horrendous pain before Christmas with a suspected ovarian cyst. By the time she was scanned, the pain was gone and there was nothing to see on the scan, but the Drs seemed to think that was the cause. She was in agony and I don't much fancy that.

ooooohnoooooo · 05/02/2025 21:16

Yes. This me. Mine is 9.5mm with bleeding.

Have been on 2 week pathway twice with hysteroscopy once and scan with biopsies. Both negative for cancer.

Am on a waiting list for a 3rd hysteroscopy as I still have bleeding and 9mm plus thickness. Been waiting since nov.

It's a bloody nuisance but my lovely GP tells me that if there is no cancer then it can be controlled with a change to HRT

It's important to get thick womb lining checked though.

I hope all is OK with your test results.

ch145 · 05/02/2025 21:23

It's seems to be so common, I have never heard of it at all. You think after getting no periods for years you'll never see blood again.

Awww it's awful. How long have you been on the waiting list?

Trixiefirecracker · 05/02/2025 21:30

I had this too. HRT can cause a thickening of the womb too. I chose to come off it. I had ovarian cysts and a thickened womb lining, all showed up with some ultrasounds. The hysteroscopy was fine and didn’t hurt ( I know it does for lots of women) but that showed that the lining had corrected itself and was normal again. No idea if it had anything to do with coming off the HRT or not. Anyway apparently it’s very very common and in 99% of cases not anything to worry about. Sending love as I know it’s hard not to worry.

So my womb is 6.2mm. I rang the drs back

Mine was 6mm. The nurse thinks that it's just that I'm not as menopausal as I thought.....

Feckedupbundle · 06/02/2025 14:20

Sorry, cut off before I finished. I hope they can reassure you. I think mine "should" have been 4mm or under as I'm not on HRT. In my understanding,if you are on HRT,it is usually thicker.

ch145 · 08/02/2025 09:19

I was 39 when I started my menopause and had no issues with my old tablets I was on, got move in October to the patches and I wasn't wearing them right only my daughter noticed. Silly me. And since then I had so much bother with it.

Still no bloods results and this was Tuesday.. & still no appointments for gynae

Feckedupbundle · 08/02/2025 09:43

I think the wait for results from bloods/ biopsies are around 3 weeks.
I had a copy of the letter that the hospital sent to my GP yesterday. It said that my BMI was 20! How they know that without weighing or measuring me I don't know, but I'm taking it.🤣 I told my husband that if a medical professional says that's what it is,it's not my place to argue with them. He looked like this, 🙄 as he knows that I'm a very suspicious minded woman.

Apileofballyhoo · 08/02/2025 09:47

AFAIK, it's common to have some bleeding when starting hrt.
