Hi my daughter has an ultrasound a few weeks ago and the person doing the scan said "appendix flipped" I didn't think to ask at the time but does anyone know what this actually means? My daughter is in a lot of pain but has just been referred urgently to gynacology thanks

How old is your daughter?. Is there a specific reason why she has been referred to gynaecology?. Is it because her periods are very painful?

Hi she's 14 at the end of September she had a cyst on her ovary which burst and since this her periods have been further apart and heavier, but she has really bad pain everyday (not just when period due etc) and paracetamol etc don't touch it just been told she's moved upto urgent on list but even this is 10 month wait and can't have her in pain for this long

Indeed she cannot be in this amount of pain for so long. Pain as well is debilitating.

There are several types of cysts; have they ever talked to her about this?.

If finances permit I would contact a local private run hospital like, Nuffield or Spire to see if she can see a gynae that way for an initial consultation. Is her GP of any use here, she ought to be seen asap.

Hi we have been bk to go a few times but because of her age she can't have any stronger pain killers etc they haven't mentioned any types of cysts etc just said that hers was around 3cm and it had ruptured and would go away on its own within 6 weeks, unfortunately not in a position to go private at the moment, it was the comment about her appendix that puzzled me they thought she had appendicitis at first but then said she didn't all bloods etc have been fine

it's a slightly odd term to use, but possibly just that it's pointing in a slightly different direction to usual. Hopefully the written report they gave to the surgeons used slightly more helpful terminology! Most important thing looking at an appendix is that it doesn't look inflamed (which would suggest appendicitis).

If they don't hear from you it's likely to be 10 months but if you keep going back to the GP/ speak to admissions explain she's missing school etc there's a chance you'll be moved up the list faster. Squeakiest wheel gets the oil.

Yes I assumed that with them saying it wasn't appendix that it isn't just trying to think of anything this pain could be or anything that could of been missed
