Hysterectomy recovery top tips

I’m on the waiting list for a hysterectomy, due to massive fibroids. Had a failed embolization last year (it has had no impact on my fibroids at all).
The thing I am most worried about is the recovery period. I can’t see how I can spend a couple of weeks in bed/resting. After my embolisation procedure last year I was so ill for weeks afterwards and thought I was never going to recover. It was a really difficult time and I felt like a burden on my DH. It pushed him to his limits having to look after me, the kids and work (he works shifts). We don’t have any family that can help out. It’s making me reconsider whether to have surgery or not.

So my question is - what are your tips on a swift recovery? How soon did you feel able to cook, tidy, do washing etc? Sooner than six weeks?

I was 49 when I had mine. I had a vertical incision and my clips were taken out after 10 days. I was in hospital for 4 days after the op and I was ready for home as I felt fine. I was OK pottering about but I didn't do any hoovering or mopping for about 6 weeks. I was OK doing things like washing up and making packed lunches. To be honest I was surprised how well I was afterwards and how quickly I recovered. I got signed off work for 3 months but I could have gone back a lot earlier if I'd wanted to.
My top tip is big knickers for a few weeks to protect your scar, and when you go out, tuck a nice soft pillowcase down the front of your trousers/skirt in case anything rubs on your tender scar.
Good luck

@Wendolino thank you. That gives me a bit of hope. I think we could probably juggle for two weeks of recovery if I can start doing stuff after that.
