TW* gross picture. Period Help worried

Hi all long time lurker first time poster.
I had my second baby 9 months ago and have had awful heavy periods ever since, has felt like postpartum bleeding never stopped.
Waiting for scan and gynaecology appt but three days ago I had a contraction like pain and pushed out a conked size hard lump that looks like uncooked sausage with dark liver like specks. Doctor says nothing they can do, as long as no severe pain and well in myself to wait for appt but it’s happened again today and I am so scared and wondering if anyone has experienced similar. I don’t ever feel particularly well but I put that down to non stop bleeding and general life, very anaemic.

I am 32, first baby natural birth, second c section if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance and apologise for the gross pictures .

I'm not one to say this often but I think I'd go to A&E with that.

Allnewtometoo · 23/01/2025 09:41

Bless you, I had the horrendously heavy periods post 2nd child. It took 3 years before anyone took me seriously so well done for getting somewhere faster. Have you tried tranexamic acid tablets? I was VERY sceptical but they did help. I ended up having an endometrial ablation which also helped a lot but you have to have finished your family to have that.

I've seen posts like this before, I can't for the life of me remember what this is or could be but someone will come along soon and tell you.

Allnewtometoo · 23/01/2025 09:42

I thought it was bartholibs cyst but that seems to be something else.

Edited

I’ve tried it in the past and they have just prescribed it again so will start back on it, the doctor also recommended anti inflammatory as apparently that can have a similar affect.

I could just about deal with the clots and bleeding but this has really scared me, the doctor refused to look at a picture and said it wouldn’t make a difference to the treatment 😢
Just feel so uncomfortable walking along to take my child to school and pushing these out, it’s disgusting .

Could potentially be a left over bit of placenta maybe?? Would explain the heavy bleeding 🤷🏼‍♀️
are you still bleeding?

That was my first reaction the other day as I was really worried but it was a 12 hour wait and realistically what would they do. I’m well, no temp, not bleeding extremely heavily, felt like a bit of a fraud. Thought the doctor would send me there if concerned

How long ago were your children? That looks like a chunk of placenta…

I queried that but doctor thought unlikely as elective c section and I haven’t shown any signs of being poorly.
Its happened on what I would class as a normal period , bleeding is heavy this week but nothing out the ordinary.

10 months ago , that was my first thought

I would feel fobbed off and get a second opinion.

There was another thread this week where a woman pushed out a similar thing and it was a pregnancy she hasn’t known about.

I think if it was retained placenta you would have had problems long before now.

Allnewtometoo · 23/01/2025 09:47

Ah Decidual cast, that's what I was thinking.

I took a pregnancy test even though near impossible chance but it came back such a strong negative so thought it couldn’t be that

caramac04 · 23/01/2025 09:53

I see you’re waiting for gynaecology and a scan; hopefully the waiting list isn’t too long.
Has your iron level been tested? Obviously not a cure but if you are anaemic you need iron tablets
I can’t offer any advice and although it does look a bit placental, I would have thought retained products would have caused an infection but I am not an expert.
Can you push the gp to mark your referral as urgent?

SantaToSSD · 23/01/2025 09:56

Google decidual cast and have a look at a few pictures of that. It does look somewhat similar to my eye. It isn't something I have personal experience of but one of those things you read about on Mumsnet from time to time.

Allnewtometoo · 23/01/2025 09:59

I do think you'd have been very unwell if it was retained placenta.

Try the tranexamic acid, I started with 2 x 4 a day but could lessen the dose as it was quite effective. I did suffer with more pain abd bloating on the TA, but I could stand up without flooding which was nice...

Wow that does look similar , Reddit had lots of photos of similar, that’s reassured me a little but thank you. Would have been nice if a doctor could give that little bit or re assurance

If it was retained placenta, I think you would have been very unwell.

I had retained placenta for 4 weeks and I ended up in septic shock and was passed out for 24 hours. I woke up in hospital and I had no idea how I had got there. I was in for 7 days and had to have a D&C.

I would be very surprised if it was retained placenta.

sorry to hear that, was a scary time for you! I can’t imagine it could be that after all these months , I’m well enough and then a period hits and it’s like that post partum period all over again.

Did you take it during your whole period? Trouble is mine is on and off for weeks and then spotting . Perhaps I will just take when I’m flooding, I am not even considering going back to work untill I get on top of this, the thought of standing up and flooding period pants and sanitary towels in front of everyone gives me anxiety. I don’t commit to any events anymore as I’m just too worried I will bleed, it really is impacting my life and getting me down

That's exactly what happened to me. Stood up to go and speak to a colleague. Flooded through maternity sized Washable pad, period pants, tights. Horrendous

With the TA, start on the 1st day of your period and take for 4 days. I remember thinking "but what about the next 12 days of bleeding??". I put off taking them because I had so little confidence they would help, but they did. By the end of day 2 it was a normal "heavy" period. By day 5 like a tap had been turned off.

If you are not on iron tablets, get some spatone sachets to help with the anaemia.

Amazing thank you, really helpful.
Doctor told me “well just take when you’re bleeding”
big help when I’ve been bleeding non stop for near 10 months 😫

Could you have been pregnant? Not wanting to cause upset but one of the pics looks like I can see limbs or feet x

Allnewtometoo · 23/01/2025 10:49

@GladBear I really feel for you. Its a horrible thing to be dealing with. I was pushed to have the coil fitted but really couldn't cope with the idea. Apparently it helps a lot of women. Pre DC I had the deposit provera jab, no periods at all (bliss) but it didn't work for me after dc.
