Hi

I've have vaginal bleeding - probably 3 or 4 incidents over the past 3 months. Put it down to stress. I'm on the coil.

Went and had It checked by the Gp who said he can see an unusual patch on the neck on my cervix. And has referred me urgently.

Please talk me down from the worst feeling. Gp said that it didn't look like anything benign he had seen before and looked v suspicious

I'm terrified- I have two small children.

I keep reading that vaginal bleeding is a sign of advanced cancer

I'm so scared

I was referred urgently during my smear appointment for a similar finding.

The nurse saw something on my cervix and I had to see a doctor too. They didn’t want to wait for the results to come back so I had a Colposcopy within two weeks. I thought the absolute worst but it ended up being OK for me. It turned out to be harmless.

Best wishes to you.. I hope you get good news 💕

Try not to worry too much - it is good you are getting it checked out, but bear in mind that cervical ectropion when the cells on the outside of the cervix look red and raw is more common in women using coils, and is associated with abnormal bleeding. In addition, having a coil appears to be protective against cervical cancer - no one is clear on why there is this association, it may be related to the fact that it sweeps the cells of the cervical when it is inserted.
No disrespect to your gp but I found the lack of knoewledge about how the coil can affect the cervix and that intermenstrual bleeding was not uncommon in women with them really frustrating when I had one.

Search up cervical ectropion. Try not to panic, it's good that your GP has acted quickly. Are your smears upto date? It's more than likely ectropion. Cervical cancer is very slow growing in something like 99% of cases, so you would have more symptoms than just bleeding if it was advanced.

I've been where you are and I understand the fear. If they take biopsies also be prepared for a few weeks wait on results aswell. Good luck x

I have an ectropian. Pretty much every nurse/doctor has recognised it and known it’s nothing to worry about.

I was referred under the two week rule following bleeding between periods and a subsequent scan that showed a mass. All very stressful and turned out to be absolutely nothing. The specialist I eventually saw told me she would never have referred me under the two week rule based on my symptoms, but I am grateful for my hyper-vigilant GP regardless. You are highly likely to be fine, OP.

I had my smear show my cells had changed and needed an urgent colposcopy within 4 weeks. Got a phone call last week from GP saying there’s a 26 week waiting list. Fingers crossed it’s nothing!
