I'm 51 and they are heavier than before, and now I'm having another full period immediately after my last period ended. I haven't contacted the GP, he'll immediately dismiss it as perimenopause, without bothering to ask questions or listen. Not sure if I just wait and see what happens next.

Loo49 · 06/01/2025 15:11

I am thinking the same just wait it out see how it goes.. went a few years ago and just got dismissed with it’s your age from a male doc came out feeling silly x

I'm hoping this part is short lived and my periods just stop. I've not had any other perimenopause symptoms at all. The only thing with these extended periods is the really low, very down, quite lost , if you see what I mean? Hope you get some relief soon x

Loo49 · 06/01/2025 15:52

Yes I do see what you mean. Hope it sorts it’s self soon and we both get some relief x

I'm 52 with quite erratic periods now, some of which are quite heavy.

elliejjtiny · 06/01/2025 16:08

I'm 42 and been having heavy periods for the last 10 years. Anything sinister ruled out, just really annoying. Was hoping they would stop soon but reading this thread I'm thinking I could have another 12+ years of it.

starpatch · 06/01/2025 16:47

Lillets ultra have been really helpful in case anyone wasn't aware. Sainsburys stock them. Before that I had used incontinence pads at one point!

Loo49 · 07/01/2025 14:24

After 14+days it seems to be easing off. I am taking iron supplements plus vitamins. Hoping this is going to be my last one 🙏

Glad to hear that! Fingers crossed it was your last one.

Loo49 · 08/01/2025 19:46

so I have a update this morning I got up. Went to the loo and it ended up like a murder scene. The bleeding was horrendous actually thought I was going to bleed to death. Doc saw me right away gave me tranexmic acid to stop the bleeding. and waiting for a scan on pelvis. and blood tests as could be low in iron. He examined tummy and said that felt all fine 🙏 it is my age. He said period at my age become erratic and very heavy before they stop… sorry for the long post xx

I’m experiencing my first perimenopause heavy period.
I’m lucky to have never had anything like this before…

My period hasn’t been regular for two years (am 49).
Got it before Christmas, after not getting one a while.

Lasted Up to two weeks, then wham, started up again.
It’s been five days of solid heavy bleeding. No easing!

It’s so painful, and I don’t know when it will end really.
Hoping this isn’t a thing, but I’ll go to the doctor anyway.

starpatch · 09/01/2025 15:39

Yikes glad you are both OK

smallsilvercloud · 09/01/2025 19:54

I'm 44 and mine got so heavy with flooding that randomly started go on for weeks, I ended up going to a&e as I was terrified at one point, I had an ablation to make them lighter, the coil and mini pill can help also.

eurochick · 09/01/2025 20:14

I was about to suggest tranexamic acid. I found it very helpful.

familyissues12345 · 10/01/2025 13:53

Here in solidarity!

I've had heavy periods forever, but these last couple of years (I'm 44) have just been hideous. Heavy, flooding, large clots. Just hideous.

I was diagnosed with anaemia a few months ago and the lovely doc suggested I try transexamic acid. 2 cycles on and tbh they have done bugger all for me. My plan now is to go back to the GP and discuss further. He did also offer the coil or pill, but I was reluctant to try either - haven't been on the pill since my early 20's and never had the coil!

It is just awful though. I was on a training course yesterday and I winced everytime I stood up in case I'd leaked on the chair - I was using Tampax, pad and period pants!!

Loo49 · 10/01/2025 20:33

I really do feel for you.. the tranexmic acid seems to have slowed mine down a bit but feel absolutely shattered. I have a blood test on Monday. And waiting on the scan.

So just an update had my scan today. She told me has found somthing but couldn’t say what it was . This has sent my mind into overdrive.. I now have to wait for my doc to get in touch 😞

Ah bless you Sad, hope you get some answers from the gynae x

I was having increasingly heavy periods aged 55, became anaemic. Already knew I had fibroids. Then had very severe pain out of nowhere and then got diagnosed with adenomyosis.

Two months later I had a hysteroscopy, biopsy and mirena coil fitted (with a spinal anaesthetic). Not a period since (and hopefully thru menopause given I'm now 57).

So don't worry, it might be easily solved like mine 🙂

Bessica1970 · 21/02/2025 13:37

Another similar story here.
Heavy bleeding that turned out to be suspected Andenomyosis but on further examination was a polyp. Painlessly removed and biopsy came back with no issues. Mirena coul fitted has sorted out the heavy bleeding that was caused by hormone imbalance.
No issues since but it felt scary at the time.

Loo49 · 01/03/2025 23:10

got my gynae app this Thurs… so hopefully get some answers and it will all be ok.

Hi Loo49, just saw your post. Hope you are ok. I have been having heavy, clotty bleeding on and off. Thinking about asking my dr for a scan again.

Loo49 · 18/03/2025 20:59

So had my consultation nearly two weeks ago. And had my hystoscopy today they found two polyps which the took away and took a biopsy from my uterus. Plus fitted a coil to help with the heavy bleeding. She said it all looked fine.. but just need to wait for results. It wasn’t as painful as I had expected more uncomfortable and a bit embarrassing.. so ladies if u have heavy bleeding and are worried get it checked out. I have suffered for a couple of years now in fear of going to see doc.. and it was all sorted in less than ten mins xxx and finger crossed all ok xx

Hi Loo49,
How are you doing? Are your periods lighter or approaching menopause?
Not sure if you still read this. Take care.
