Desogestrel Birth control

Hi all, hoping I can get some much needed advice about my contraception. I was taken off microgynon as I got a blood clot in my leg (not proven to be related) and I had been on for over 10 years successfully. So they switched me to progesterone only - desogestrel. Since then I get periods ALL the time!! Like every 2 weeks & it's so annoying. I've read that you can maybe take 2 tablets at a time it can stop the regularity. Has anyone tried this with success? Sick of not knowing when it's coming & constantly bleeding. Thanks 🙂

I take this but I get the opposite and have no periods at all . Maybe a random period or 2 a year . It does say constant bleeding can be a side effect. Keeping this bumped for you .

Watching with interest. I started desogestrol about 5 weeks ago after many years on combined pill. I've had a light bleed with some brown discharge for the past 2 weeks. I think like any new medication it can take a while to settle down, so I'm going with it for now

How tall are you? I heard that height and/or weight can have an effect on bleeding. If you are particularly tall or heavy the dose might not be enough. I would speak to your doctor and see if they can prescribe a different pill

I was given desogestrel at my postpartum check and bled every 2 weeks, until it got so bad one time I bled for 24 days straight. Went to private gynae and was told to stop the pill and seek alternative (couldn't do combined pill as gave me thrush due to the hormone imbalance). So no experience of taking a higher dose but personally I wouldn't do that without doctor advice. Unsure if you want to have any/more kids but anything with hormones I would follow medical advice on

I had that with Cerazette which is desogestrel based together with awful mood swings. Swapped to a norethisterone based pill and was absolutely fine. But I think Noriday might be the only one available and there are supply issues at the moment.

If you’ve only been on it a short time (ie a couple of months) this is really normal. Sorry! I have been on it 10 years now and absolutely love it as I have lupus and before that my periods were so heavy and lots of clotting etc and now I have no bleeding, ever whatsoever. But for the first 6 months it was all over the place, just gradually got less and less. I’m now on it alongside HRT and it works really well for me.

That's what I thought, good to have it confirmed, thanks. I'm on HRT too

@Pigeonqueen I've been on for over a year now so was hoping it would settle! But thank you for the answer ❤️ it seems for a lot of people it stops them

I was on this pre children and had no period for years. Since going back on after children I've had regular and long periods, although they are quite light. Have just got some noriday to try to see if that works better for me.
