I’m 49 and have always had 26 day regular cycles( couple days either way).
Last month my period started on 2/11and was usual 6/7 days. Then in the 11/11 I had a few days light spotting annd nothing until the 10/12 when I bled for usual 6/7 days. On the 22 Dec spotting started angain annd has continued. Now feels like another period 7 days in.
So worrying

I would say definitely peri and if this is the first sign you've had of it by 49 you've done quite well! Nothing to worry about, it just sucks. But worth going to your GP if this is the first irregular bleeding you've had just so they can rule out anything else. I'd be very surprised if it was anything other than peri though. X

Went go and ran bloods. All fine. Thinks likely perimenopause but suppose no one can be sure. Thinking of booking ultrasound as wait a length on nhs. Some available tomorrow privately but due to be going on holidays in few days snd afraid that if shows something that needs further investigation, I’ll ruin holiday

I have recently had similar. I am 52 so a bit older than you but had been having fairly regular periods until about 3 months ago. I had one cycle where I spotted for about 3 weeks but had no proper period, then a normal period came, then 2 weeks later the spotting started again which turned into a really heavy period a week later. I had 24 hours of very heavy bleeding & clots so went to the doctors. He arranged for me to have an ultrasound just to be sure there were no fibroids etc. I had the ultrasound on Friday & all looked fine so it seems it is just peri.

Thank you so much for taking the time. I really appreciate it at a time of worry. Your situation sounds like mine. I’m supposed to be going away on holiday soon so definitely not get seen on nhs before that for ultrasound. I can have a private one done tomorrow but it’s just a scan service with a 15 min slot . I am a little worried incase they see something but can’t tell me what it is likely to be and I worry myself more before I go

If I thought it would offer reassurance, I’d book .

Do you think I should go ahead and book? 😩

I suspect it is just your periods going haywire due to peri, which is what mine appears to be. I think it is fairly common.
I would go ahead and enjoy your holiday and if you are still concerned then make another appointment with your GP and they will hopefully arrange an ultrasound.

After 3 messed up cycles, this last one has come around the time I would normally expect it and hasn’t been as horribly heavy.

I was told that they have to offer the ultrasounds within 4 weeks of being referred by your GP so hopefully it wouldn’t be a long wait for you if you do decide to go back to your doctor. Mine was something a few weeks.

Sorry, that should say ‘was done within a few weeks’ not sure what happened there! 😆
