Pinkbendyman · 28/12/2024 11:51

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 20 years ago (54 yo female) and am currently prescribed 175mcg thyroxine daily.

My latest results have come back as (see photo below)

Please can anyone help as the more I google, the more confused I feel!

Have you been unwell? I would question it and maybe ask for a repeat test. If your TSH level is still so high when on such a high dose, I would look at how and when you take your thyroxine. Are you taking it with anything that can inhibit absorption? (Antacids?) Do you have coeliac disease and you are not being compliant?

Very useful, thank you.

I am in good health and all my recent tests came back within normal ranges apart from these.

I take my thyroxine meds later on in the day, separate from my morning cup of coffee and multi vitamins as I understand these can inhibit absorption.

I’ll contact my GP surgery next week and try to get some more information.

I was always advised to take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and avoid caffeine for 2 hours , but to still have a TSH that high on a relatively high dose of thyroxine suggests something is going wrong. Have you had antibodies checked recently.

@TheOliveFinch Thanks. Which antibodies?

Also, I’ve never had a consultation with an endocrinologist in over 20 years. Everything has been done via the GP.

@Pinkbendyman mainly TPO antibodies I believe , a high percentage of hypothyroidism is due to autoimmune disease mostly hashimoto’s. I’ve been hypothyroid for a similar length of time but luckily remained in range for TSH and I have been on a stable dose of thyroxine for many years now and a fair bit lower than your dose I don’t know what the referral threshold for seeing an endocrinologist is but it would be worth asking your GP.

@Pinkbendyman I found this article about it if it is useful
