Pink CM years after LLETZ

Hi, I've scoured Mumsnet for something similar to what I keep experiencing but can't find any answers :(

Has anyone who has had LLETZ treatment years beforehand get pink tinged cervical mucous after dtd?

I had lletz 4 years ago and they took quite a bit away (had to have a stitch in my following pregnancy) but I've have had 3 smears since and they're all clear (most recent August 2024). I had silver nitrate applied in October 2024 but I still get the tiniest bit of red / pink tinged CM the following day after having sex.

Gynaecologist says everything is ok down there but I always wonder if it will always be like this due to scar tissue / weakness etc

I'm 32 for reference so too early for any kind of menopause related stuff.

Hey, I got access to my consultant notes from the October appt and it says I have 'post LLETZ ectopy' which I can't even find as 'a thing' when I google but I guess it makes sense that the inside cells are growing on the outside of the cervix if our cervixes are now shorter due to the surgery?! I'm going to make an appt as it advises I will need a ball cautery if the bleeding continued.

It can be very common. It is almost like a scab on the cervix so when you have sex it can damage the "scab" and so you bleed slightly. They can treat it easily if it is required.

I have had 3 LLETZ treatments after having carcinoma in situ.

I had my lletz 4 years ago And have had a cervical stitch for pregnancies since - it should be healed - no scabs noted on examinations. It's the inner cells now growing on the

Didn't finish my message Blush it surely should be healed by now, I feel like it's constantly haunting me! Have you had any treatments that have worked? The silver nitrate has done nothing.

@chal92 what test did they do at the appointment?

After my pregnancy and stitch etc, I had another colposcopy but everything looked 'ok'. Bleeding still continues. They have biopsied my womb now and waiting for results.

However, this all started after the LLETZ and pregnancy!

chal92 · 29/12/2024 12:48

There was no test, I'd recently had a clear smear and infection swabs prior to the appt. The consultant said it was the scar tissue 'playing up' and I've read my notes which says it's a post LLETZ ectopy so I guess mine is a cervical ectropian caused by the LLETZ which he could see - i just wish when they carried out this kind of procedure they'd warn of issues further down the line.

Other than this spotting after sex I have no other issues - periods are ok, no pain other than usual period pains, no additional discharge etc... are you experiencing any other issues other than the spotting?

@chal92 I agree about being informed more on the risks and complications. I was told I wouldn't have any issues in pregnancy afterwards, then end up nearly losing her. Only found this because instinct told me to have a cervix scan and they were like your hours away from labour (at 16 weeks) It was very traumatic!!!!!

But I had CIN3 so I guess it needed to be done.

I have abnormal bleeding and super long periods now :(

chal92 · 29/12/2024 14:31

Sorry you went though that I can totally sympathise. Mine was pretty much similar circumstances - midwife booked me to see a consultant who didn't really want to bother with a scan, I insisted at 18 weeks and was swiftly carted off for a stitch the next day, they'd removed 1.7cm in depth during the LLETZ which wasn't mentioned as being 'a lot' at the time. Then whenever I see a bit of blood now I go into major panic mode I don't think it's realised just how much distress this 'simple' procedure causes to women. It's like a grey cloud hanging over us and it keeps coming back for more.

@chal92 oh wow our stories sound so similar. Bless you. I understand how you're feeling completely.

Just to update, I went back earlier this week and had ball cautery on my cervix. The most painful part was the anaesthetic - stings like a bitch but treatment itself was absolutely fine, pain free I'd say - just a little crampy once the anaesthetic had worn off. The irritated cells (from what I saw on the camera) were quite a bit inside the cervical canal. So it got me thinking, the 'visual' of your cervix might not show any ectropian but it may be inside the canal? That's what is happening with me anyhow, plus the bit that bleeds wasn't obvious at first, the dr had to do some poking around to find it and then cauterise it. I think the amount of cervix removed must make it so much more sensitive as the parts now exposed should be a good 1-2cm further up / hidden within Confused I'm just hoping this time round it works! Will report back once I'm healed Smile
