Possible uterine cancer - petrified.

I'm absolutely sick with worry. I'm 34 and been having long periods ever since my c sections and LLETZ procedure on my cervix. However I have now been getting abnormal bleeding during my cycles, very heavy with clots. My cervix and ovaries were checked a few months ago which were normal but they want to check the endometrium.

I'm having an urgent scan and uterine biopsy next week and I'm terrified of uterine cancer!? Has anybody else experienced something like this and what was the outcome?

Also, I keep reading horror stories about a hysteroscopy - I won't be under GA.

I had a hysteroscopy(no ga) and it was completely fine. I know lots of people have had bad experiences, but that wasn’t the case for me at all. My wall was very thick but biopsy came back normal.
Easier said then done, but please try not to think of the worst case scenario, fingers crossed for you that’s is all ok, sure it will be.

Hi
I had similar issues and was warned that this was a possibility for me too. I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy and thankfully it came back clear. I had my copper coil removed and a mirena one put in at the same time and have been absolutely fine ever since
I had my hysteroscopy without anaesthetic and it was a bit uncomfortable at times but generally ok. I did a lot of breathing technique to get through. But I am someone that doesn't have major issues with smears etc. I wouldn't hesitate to have the anaesthetic if you feel you need it.

Thank you both. Can I ask what measurement is classed as 'thick' please? Did they do an ultrasound before the biopsy?

I did do both normal and pelvic ultra sound and the biopsy was done during the hysteroscopy.
Sorry can’t remember the thickness, but it was a lot. Remember googling and feeling very worried, I was convinced I had cancer too.

Ultrasounds, then hysteroscopy a week or so later

cashmerecardigans · 13/12/2024 11:21

I'm afraid I can't remember the detail either. But it was pretty grim. I was bleeding a lot and pretty continuously at one point. I had a transvaginal scan, then consultant appointment and hysteroscopy shortly afterwards.

RubyDarke · 13/12/2024 11:29

There are alternatives to a GA for hysteroscopy if you need it. I had inhaled sedation/ pain relief (penthrox) which is for my second and it was brilliant (felt disorientated/high for a couple of hours afterwards but it was fine.) It's quicker and cheaper for them to offer nothing but after my first one I said I needed some form of pain relief and this was offered on the spot.

TheRealMummyPig · 13/12/2024 11:34

I've had a number of scans for thick lining and two hystersocopies (under sedation) with biopsies. All fine. Even worst case scenario, I think endometrial cancer is most commonly slow growing and treated fairly easily compared with other cancers.

@RubyDarke I just called them and they said they do off this as well! Thank you!

I am glad you have options! You will need someone else to take you to the appointment as you can't drive afterwards - like Entenox it distances you from the procedure (you know it's happening but it's like your body is somewhere else) but the effects last longer. I wouldn't hesitate to request it for future procedures.

OutbackQueen · 13/12/2024 11:54

I’ve had several investigations for possible uterine cancer and they’ve all been fine. I didn’t have GA for the hysteroscopies and although there was discomfort, it was bearable.
Even if it is cancer (unlikely) this one is very treatable. All the best.

Thank you everyone. A cancellation came through so I am being seen now on Monday. Glad I don't have to wait too long!

How did it go?

pinkbloom · 05/01/2025 21:54

@Ansumpasty not as bad as I feared. A little uncomfortable but the nurses were lovely, and I had medication to help. Just have to wait for the results now. I did have a mirena coil fitted as well.
