Tranexamic acid - help please!

Hi!

I've been prescribed Transexamic acid due to awful flooding periods and an anaemia, however I'm abit unsure what to expect and whether I'm doing it right?

So I've been advised to take 2 tablets, 3 times a day during bleeding. I started taking them yesterday lunchtime, so have taken 6 tablets so far.

Should I expect to see anything change by now? Period seemed light yesterday, but is typical 2nd flooding today 🙄. Should I have started them on Wednesday when I had the tiniest of spotting?

Do I just need to be more patient? I don't know whether to expect the bleeding to stop full stop or just become more manageable?

Thanks so much for any advice! Xmas Smile

It didn't work for me, other than causing more clotting. I did have extremely heavy bleeding though.
I think at best it only makes the heaviest days slightly more manageable, I would ask for another medication if possible.

It made absolutely no difference to my horrendous periods whatsoever!

It didn't work for me

Didn’t work for me either. I had Provera tablets in the end, but would prob go for the coil if I had to do it again

Made zero difference for my DD.
She ended up on pill and doesn't take breaks.

Waste of time for me too and further investigations, eventually, showed a very large fibroid. It is better to get to what the cause is first and too often a tablet is prescribed that does little other than get you out of the surgery! Any idea why your periods are so heavy? Worth seeing if that can be looked at.

Worked well for me. It only controls bleeding for around 4 hours so you have to take it regularly as prescribed.

I think you’re taking it correctly. I do find that spreading the dosages more evenly helps me, so morning, mid afternoon, shortly before bed. They don’t much reduce the bleeding overall but I find I clot more so it’s less flooding. I also take mefenamic acid for pain and find that overall helps to reduce the bleeding too. For periods of 10+ days I take oral progesterone (Utovlan) to stop the bleeding to reduce the chances of becoming anaemic, so that might be something else to ask about.

Thanks everyone!

We've no idea why my periods are so heavy, they've been like this since I was about 40 (now 44). I was prescribed the tablets during a call to discuss my blood results and we discussed different ways to calm the bleeding down.
I wasn't keen on trying the pill, haven't been on it since my 20's and wasn't sure about side effects of hormones etc?

I'm due a check up in the next couple of months so I'll ask for maybe a proper investigation? I'd just put it down to age...

My cycles are also getting shorter and shorter each time. 6 months ago they were regular as clockwork!
