Hi Gp has tried transaexemic acid and also another medicine and now on week 3 of period passing clots like this. Waiting on a scan but finding it hard to manage daily life with this on top of other disabilities. Any practical tips from women in similar positions?

That was my regular period for years, over a decade. It was hell. Tranexamic acid and mefanemic acid were pretty useless. I had to sleep on a towel, was up 4 times a night leaking, wore super plus tampons AND the thickest pads and had to change both every 40-60 minutes in the day, and couldn’t leave the house for 4 days a month. Gynae made me jump through all sorts of hoops for 5 years -Mirena (useless and constant daily bleeding for nearly a year) POP (5 months solid bleeding leaving me barely able to stand I was so anaemic) it turned out to be fibroids and, after a lot of begging, a hysterectomy also showed I had endometriosis.
Sorry, no practical advice, just sending you sympathies Flowers I hope they can come up with a better treatment option for you after a scan. Word of warning, if they offer ablation, the lining can regrow and you can end up with the same issues, that’s why I insisted on the permanent solution.

Thank you for being the only person to reply! I really appreciate your time and kindness. I am finding it so painful and also debilitating. Like you, I have to change every 30-40m and it is exhausting. I've decided to go down the private route and see if they can give me any more answers, but thanks again for replying

This is normal for me too. I have adenomyosis, endometriosis and fibroids. They have refused me a hysterectomy due to age, so I suffer on with some painkillers to manage through the worst days.

The image below is one of tonight's jellyfish. Not as bad as yours, but I'm on day 4 now, so they are calming down. It's brutal.

How old were you when you were diagnosed @JoeTheHoeOnTheDoe? I'm approaching 4 weeks of heavy bleeding now and my clots have reduced thankfully but still changing every 40m or so. I've booked some private tests to try and work out what's going on!

A work colleague had an ablation for this. I was thinking of asking for one, but things finally sorted themselves out when I was 58 or 59.

Badperiodqueen · 10/12/2024 11:03

yeah I don't really fancy an ablation @WearyAuldWumman but can see why it might be necessary! Glad things improved for you in the end at least.

I was in my early 30's when diagnosed. I ended up paying privately to get a diagnosis as the NHS fobbed me off for years.
Surgery was not an option for me due to the extensive adhesions. The consultant told me the endo would likely return anyway even if it was treated. I'm so angry that I was dismissed for YEARS, when early diagnosis and treatment could have given me a much better outcome.

I'd absolutely recommend going private if you can afford it. The NHS don't care about women's problems and the waiting lists to be seen and treated are astronomical.

Thanks. I've literally gone private this week for the first time as I just can't continue like it. Fingers crossed. All I hear is women say the same thing about being fobbed off for years on the NHS unfortunately.
