Unusual vaginal bleeding

I was due on my period around 2 weeks ago but was approximately 6 days late. I then had a much lighter period than normal. Once it stopped I had spotting on and off for around a week, then randomly one day I had a sudden gush of bright red blood and needed a pad for the rest of the day. This only lasted one day, few days go by on and off brown spotting. Same thing happens again, bright red heavy bleeding, medium size clots, needing to change pad after an hour, soaking through layers of clothes just sitting on the couch, then stopped again for a few days.

Since Monday I have now experienced this every day for a couple of hours in the morning but then completely eases off the rest of the day until the next day. I had a telephone appointment with the GP who fobbed me off and said periods can be irregular, don't worry about it. I have just been to the toilet and the blood is gushing out of me like water, bright red and multiple clots about the size of a 20p coin.

Dr Google isn't much help either as I can mainly only find info on spotting between periods but this is heavy bleeding. My female friends are also just comparing it to spotting but literally the toilet bowl is filled with blood and clots every time I go and I'm changing my pad often.

This doesn't feel normal but what could it be? And how do I get the doctor to actually listen to me?

I would contact the GP and ask about Tranexamic acid and discuss a follow up should this continue as there could be any number of reasons.

If your GP doesn't listen to you then try another Dr.

How old are you? Any chance you could be pregnant? I had bleeding like this in early pregnancy.

Book an appointment at a women's clinic. Endometriosis, polyps and thyroid issues can all cause similar symptoms to your description. Perimenopause and miscarriage can as well. You need medical assessment not MN advice.

Excuse my ignorance @Frostingle , but what is a women's clinic? Are these private clinics? I am very interested so apologies @TwoBlueDeer for hijacking your thread slightly!

@mumwithallthebooks No they're not private, your local GP surgery should offer one. Usually where you would go for smear tests, STI tests etc. Pre gynaecology type clinic.
