Hi

I have posted another thread about a possible Lichen slecrosis diagnosis although this has not been confirmed so I am not 100 percent sure

there is also a link between LS and vulval cancer

tonight I have noticed a tiny brown patch of discolouration on the edge of my inner labia, it is not raised it is flat

I am not sure if this is part of my labia getting darker as I am older but I am absolutely terrified

not sure why I am posting here just wondering if anyone else has said this as I am in a total mess at the moment

Hi @Popie123
I've just posted a thread about vulval cancer this morning- we can be terrified together.
I saw a private gynaecologist last week who specialises in vulval disorders. I have brown marks on my labia and a whitish area which I have to apply cream to and go back in 6 weeks. I'm so scared- I keep going back to the worst case scenario.
What has your gynaecologist said?

Popie123 · 16/12/2024 14:50

@SleeplessNights03 sorry to hear you are feeling worried I totally get where you are coming from.. do you have a diagnosis of Lichen slecrosus? was going to write another post on this as I am really confused atm and tbh this whole thing has sent me spiralling particularly cos I have health anxiety

so I saw the gynae who said no white patches , brown areas normal part of labia and she said no signs of cancer etc and said it was atrophic vaginitis which I read happens more in the meno/peri.. I am 34 and I am defo not either of these

I wasn't satisfied with her so I went to see a private vulval dermatologist she said she did suspect mild LS but said it was controlled, dormant and not the progressive type although I believed there was only one type so I am very confused at this. She told me to use a maintenance dose of dermovate and Defo not to use it everyday which is what the first person I saw told me to do . She said no suspicious lesions signs of cancer etc but that I shouldn't checked every 6 months the whole thing had terrified me tbh

Can I ask what part of the uk you are in? As I really struggled to find anyone who specialised in these areas and I'm in London where you'd think it would be easier

That's confusing. I don't have a diagnosis of LS- the gynaecologist I saw said there was no evidence of "sclerotic change". I was told to use a cream for the next six weeks to see if the white area cleared up and come back after that for a follow up appointment, at which they would do a biopsy if needed. I'm also in London.

@SleeplessNights03 can I ask which specialist you saw ? Given the fact our been searching left right and centre for specialists recently
i I may have come across them.. I was told 'no sclerotic patches or inflammation'

was it dermovate they gave you ?

I saw Mr Ashfaq Khan- he was lovely. It was Trimovate that I was given....
Who did you see?

Popie123 · 16/12/2024 17:50

@SleeplessNights03 what a coincidence! I was actually going to go and see him to get a second opinion i spoke to his secretary today but I feel like I'm too scared incase he says something worse ! Was it a vulvoscopy you had in Harley street ? And did you go for any other symptoms like itching etc ?

I was reading about the vulvoscopy he does where he puts the iodine on the vulva etc is that what you did ?

I've been to a few people the first person I saw was a man called Dr Christopher scott .. then went to private gynae called Dr Kollipara and the derm I went to was called Dr Gossain

I wonder if it is worth me going to Mr Khan

@SleeplessNights03 also what did he actually say that yours was? Did he mention cancer etc ?

OP posts:
SleeplessNights03 · 16/12/2024 17:53

Yes- it was a vulvoscopy. I'd recommend him- but you've seen several already so depends if you want to spend more. When did she offer you an appointment? Was it for tomorrow?

Popie123 · 16/12/2024 17:55

@SleeplessNights03 yes it was for tommorow but I didn't go ahead and book it and I've seen quite a few and this possibly could be health anxiety getting the best of me.

the biopsy he wanted to do may have been for LS more than anything cancer related ?

OP posts:
SleeplessNights03 · 16/12/2024 18:46

He didn't say what it was. He said if the cream didn't clear it up he would do a biopsy to find out what it was, but said he didn't think it was LS as there were no sclerotic changes evident. He said it could be nothing or could be VIN but couldn't tell without biopsy.
