Mirena side-effects, emotional?

I recently had a polyps removed (hysteroscopy), all went well. They replaced my mirena (which I've had for 2.5 years, alongside oestrogel).

Until now the mirena and oestrogel combination has been brilliant, life-changing, solving my pmdd and helping with perimenopause (I'm 49).

But...since the operation two weeks ago, mainly in the last week, I've started reacting suddenly and emotionally to small things.

This morning my 12 year old was his usual dismissive self on our way to the bus stop, saying, "ok ok," and rolling his eyes no matter what I said (normal chat), and instead of ignoring it or saying, "please answer me more politely!" as I usually do, I got really upset and had a go at him for being rude and hurtful.

It feels a bit like PMS used to. Sensitive to imagined rejection.

Could this be due to the mirena being replaced? Something to do with progesterone? I was fine with the first one!

Has anyone experienced similar with replaced mirenas?

I wonder what caused that. How long did it last? I hope you're ok now.

Interesting. I had mine put in a few days ago and I think it had affected my mood too, although I cannot quite put my finger on her on how specifically.
I had one before and do not remember that.

Lasted for a some weeks , was quite emotional ... its gone and forgotten now! Ive read its cause they "jiggle" the organs which sends them bit crazy afterwards . It will settle

(Im thinking that cause youve already had the mirena..you only had it replaced, so its the same thing / hormones really like the previous)

I so hope so. I'm feeling a bit more normal this week, just flat, but that's better than last week. Hopefully the jiggling is settling!

Did you have a general anaesthetic?

Yes, but it was about a week later that the moods started. Could it be that?

Jumping in here.
I'm a first time mirena owner ( fitted today) (and polyp removed)
did you bleed afterwards? I was told to expect some spotting but it's been a bit more than spotting throughout the day now (think 3 pads worth).
is this normal?
I also feel like someone's now prodding my insides and gave cramps.. I didn't hurt having it put in (a little twinge but dentist is worse!) is this normal?

I experienced all of that the first time round and it got better, although I can't remember how long after insertion those effects cleared up. I remember feeling bloated as well for ages!

Not had those effects this time, though, except a tiny bit if spotting.

I honestly don't know. I was just wondering if it was the culprit but a whole week later seems like it wouldn't be.

I was incredibly tearful and anxious after having a Merina fitted as part of my HRT. It was so different to my normal self I wasn't prepared to put up with it and had it removed and was back to my old self in a few days. There is no way that I would have one again.

I've since found out that medics and medical departments are financially incentivised to promote and fit Merina coils. I notice that they are always keen to discuss the benefits, but never mention the risks. The senior practice nurse at my GP surgery even denied that they could dislodge or migrate saying that once it was in place it would be in the right position as there was nowhere else it could go. Medical advice around Merina coils is not unbiased.
