Endometrial biopsy - lining 18mm

Hi, looking for some reassurance! Iv been had irregular periods for about 18 months with bleeding every 2/3 weeks for 6/9 days. In August I saw a G.P and asked about hrt as id been on my period for 3 weeks. The G.P referred me for a scan which showed an endometrial thicking at 18mm and possible polyps.
A week later the G.P rang to say the radiologist had advised an urgent suspect cancer referral. I was already booked in for sterilization 2 days later so the 2 week gynae referral spoke to the surgeon who agreed to due a hysteroscopy during the sterilization.
After the surgery, the surgeon explained they had removed a polypoidal mass but the womb lining was not normal with some areas smooth and some irregular with vascularity. She has sent urgent biopsys with me recieving the results in the rapid access clinic in 2/3 weeks. The fact that she wants me to get the results in the clinic and not just send them to my G.P is making me nervous, Im not worried about the polyp mass and cant help but think Im being a drama lama over it but the rapid access clinic and urgent biopsys has got me questioning if this is normal? Any reassure this is standard or similar scenarios would be greatly appreciated! TIA X

I had a similar thing although with fibroid being vascular and as I understand any polyp or mass which can’t be ruled out as cancerous has to be treated as urgent.

its difficult waiting for biopsy results but try to keep your mind occupied and try not to Google, your mind goes to worse case scenario and there is absolutely no point wasting energy thinking you have something when you have no evidence you have it.

hope it all goes well

I've had womb cancer. I was 48 at the time and my lining was 23mm. I also had a mass of polyps removed and the biopsy they took at the same time found the cancer. Within two weeks I was in hospital having a hysterectomy.

Be reassured, that caught early, it's a very treatable type of cancer. I'm 4.5 years out the other side now and am fine.

Hi JoJo,
Glad to hear you've recovered well! Im still waiting on my results, no news is good news as they say! Did they notice anything irregular in your lining during your hysteroscope or was it the biopsy that confirmed cancer?
Thanks x

Sorry for the late reply. I’d forgotten I’d posted.

There was nothing at the time of my hysteroscopy that was concerning. I had a Mirena coil fitted at the same time for heavy bleeding and was expecting that to be that. When they called me back in the consultant did say that it was an unexpected finding.

As a result of having had endometrial cancer relatively young I did find out that I have Lynch Syndrome which is a genetic condition that increases the risk of some gynae cancers as well as bowel cancer.

I hope you get some answers soon OP.
