Bulky cervix

Hi

Wondering if anyone can help?

Long story short, health anxiety. Periods from being young were 7 days long and very painful. On contraception from aged 15 to 26ish, dd1 IVF due to unexplained infertility on my side, dd2 natural conception 18 months later. Both ELCS. Went on depo, came off in October 2023 after 3 years on it (started with weight gain and vaginal dryness). Periods returned in April this year, varied cycle lengths and have been short and light at times but other than cramping, have been fine.

Tilted cervix, smears are a nightmare. Last one was in July this year (I go to colposcopy because my cervix is that high and tilted) and they always hurt. Nurse had to get another nurse to do it as she was struggling, other nurse asked if I always bled, which I do. Think she said it looked inflamed but can't remember. Cried to original nurse and explained about HA and she said she saw nothing at all to worry about and said that any prodding and poking would cause inflammation and bleeding. Results back, normal.

Intermittent mid-cycle bleeding ever since. Been tracking this and it's usually after period, very light pink when wiping, up to ovulation, then nothing. Sometimes around ovulation there is plenty of EWCM and sometimes there will be a brown streak of old blood.

Never bled mid-cycle before, currently not on any contraception or medication, and I'm 34. Dmum didn't hit menopause until 40s.

GP referred me for an US for reassurance. Had it yesterday and explained HA to the nurse and she said there was nothing to worry about. Read the report last night and panicked. Saw nurse today who said bulky cervix can be normal for some, can be with infections or conditions, that everything else looked normal and as it should, and that the fluid could just be there if it's been knocked. Also gynae nurse friend said everything on scan looks normal, that fluid could be due to ovulation, or due to period approaching (due on next week) and said to ask for an MRI for adenomyosis as she has it and it could be that. Nurse has contacted gynae for advice and guidance and said that because of the waiting list they now ask for advice and it's just routine as they are the experts, and that they may either want to see me, or they may be happy that things are as they are.

Anyone with any similar experiences who can please share them?

Could be cervicitis. Expect gynae will want to review to confirm.

Is that something I should be worried about?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I've been referred to colposcopy due to a bulky cervix. I'm really worried.

Sorry you're feeling worried Flowers I did - I had a colposcopy and beforehand the nurse explained that fluid can be for various reasons including where you are in your cycle. During it, she said my cervix looked absolutely fine. I had a punch hole biopsy taken as I was having some mid-cycle bleeding, and got the results this week that everything is absolutely fine, no further action needed.

Have you had your appointment confirmed?

@merryandbrightdelight thanks so much for your reply. My ultrasound was normal except for a small fibroid, I didn't have any fluid. I've been spotting for days after each period for months now but the doctor said the fibroid is too small to be causing these symptoms. He examined me and said my cervix was bulky and he's referring me to colposcopy. It's the 'bulky cevix' that has concerned me. I've always had normal smears (including one a few months ago) and IUD fittings/removals and no one has ever mentioned it before. I have my appointment in a few weeks but feels like forever away.

@Louise121806 it's awful waiting, but when I went in she was lovely and said to me that it was important to remember that sometimes all results are clear and there will never be an answer as to why the bleeding is happening, it just happens, and although it's annoying to not have an answer, everything else is ruled out. The only reason she did the biopsy was for my own peace of mind so I knew she had done everything (because of my health anxiety).

I've had normal smears too, and oddly enough I also have had them done at colposcopy because of the positioning of my cervix (tilted). I've also had IVF so everyone's had a good luck up there!
