Constant headache for several days

I’ve had a headache for 4
days now, nothing has worked. Mainly in my temples and back of my head but upper jaw also aches. Ibuprofen/ paracetomal/ aspirin take the edge off it but it never goes away. Wake up and as soon as I sit up it hurts and that’s it for the day again. I’m managing to work through it but it’s hard. also keep feeling dizzy if I stand up too suddenly. Called Gp and have an appointment next week but that feels so dreadfully far away.
No other symptoms- is this a migraine? Never suffered from anything like this before, normally a simple headache is resolved by painkillers/ drinking more water etc. At a loss as have tried everything.

You shouldn’t have to wait a week. Call 111 and they should be able to find someone to see you

Have you checked your blood pressure? Very high can cause headaches apparently.

If your upper jaw also aches could also be TMJ, where the hinges of your jaw are grinding and this can cause stiffness and headaches.

Could be a virus - hence the dizziness.

Sorry you are suffering, and I agree a work is a long time especially if these are new symptoms for you. Can you call again at 8am tomorrow or call 111?

I'd do a headache flow on 111 online to see what it says in terms of how soon this needs looking at. There might be some questions in there that raise red flags so it could recommend you get seen sooner.

If it says you need seeing sooner and your GP won't help you, get 111 on the case.

I’ve not checked it as don’t have a machine at
home but the last few times I’ve had it checked over the last couple of years it has been high so it’s not impossible. I could call 111 once the surgery closes, they’ve said earliest appointment they can give me is next week.

Same here. Sumatriptan works for me. Painkillers don't touch it.

Robinrbst · 30/10/2024 12:47

Saying that I have had appallingly high blood pressure in the past and not gotten headaches but it can't hurt to check.

Definitely try 111 you shouldn't have to suffer

And yes it could be hormonal headaches/migraines. I get horrible ones if my progesterone drops too low. Have you had any hormonal chages recently?

Also I would take a covid test, could be that.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/10/2024 12:49

111 for urgent care referral or a walk in centre.
Hope you get it resolved soon.

Probably a stupid question: are you drinking enough?

I’m making myself drink lots hoping it might help but doesn’t seem to be fixing it (yet)

im definitely peri-menopausal so could be that, but it’s the first time I’ve had an unrelenting headache, it literally never goes away, Just drops in its intensity after painkillers then flares back up again. I did actually take a covid test as had heard new strain causes headaches but negative. Tried caffeine as read that could help too- nothing helps at all! It’s so odd.

I've literally had a low level headache for many years and the doctors have been pretty useless with it all, so I hope yours is better and you get some answers.

I do get migraines maybe once every. couple of months, but they are much more severe (vision loss, etc.) My day-to-day headaches are annoying and a bit uncomfortable, but not hugely painful.

So, what I really wanted to say, is really try to push for help if you don't get much in the beginning. It hasn't been much use to me, but hopefully it will for you!

I had terrible migraines when i was peri. The pain went all down my neck. Had them everyday.
i take Sumatriptan. Also, has a preventative my doctor recently has prescribed Propanolol , This has been a game changer.
Phone 111. Best wishes.
