Is the Myoovi any good with endometriosis period pain?

Just that really. DD aged 23 really suffers with pain. And hormonal mood swings before periods are getting longer and more intense. Any suggestions welcome! She may try the pill again, but last time it really messed with her mental health. She's had a coil for a few years, and is coming up for replacement time, which she's dreading - she couldn't get out of bed for weeks after the last fitting. All of this not helped by her moving across the country every couple of years and having to start from scratch with gynae depts.
But the Myoovi - might it be a small win?

Castor oil either on a pack or rubbed in.

Google it. It's brilliant stuff.

Thanks, @Attelina. Will give that a try, definitely.

I’d highly recommend acupuncture, it helped me so much it actually masked how bad my bleeds were until I missed a few appointments and was flooding, severe pain etc as I’d time it to get it done day before or day of bleed.
Also, I’ve started doing somatic movement, yoga, stretching, proper destressing which has also really helped.

@MiddleagedBeachbum Ah, never thought of that. Another good thing to try. There are a couple of people near her who seem to have good credentials for this, so hopefully she'll be up for trying it out.

I would give the myoovi a go and avoid using the castor oil packs.

Your DD ideally needs to be under the care of a gynae dept that is on the BSGE accredited endometriosis centre list.

The more she educates herself about endo the better. Knowledge is power and she may be less likely to be fobbed off. I would also encourage her to have a look at the Endometriosis uk website too. Get support | Endometriosis UK

Has she previously undergone laparoscopic surgery for this?. How was it diagnosed?.

Thanks. Yes, she had what I think was laparoscopic surgery - keyhole camera thing. She's on the waiting list for a gynae dept, but a new region from the one she was with before, and she'll be living somewhere completely different again from next summer for a couple of years.

The worst thing at the moment is the mood swings.

NHS waiting lists for gynae are miles long in many areas so she could well be in for a long wait.

If you can afford to pay for her to have an initial consultation at say a Spire or Nuffield private hospital that has a gynae dept I would do this.

Has she been diagnosed with PMS or PMDD re her mood swings?

I'm older than your DD and tried the Myoovi. TBH it didn't do much although the distraction was kind of fun. The reviews online suggest that it works for some people but not others.

That reminds me to list it on Ebay...

Or pm me with a price and I could take it off your hands?

My DD has extremely painful periods and severe mood swings. She uses a combination of metanamic acid, magnesium tablets and a Myoovi. These seem to have made a big difference in the last few months.

Pinkstars2501 · 31/10/2024 20:16

I have endometriosis and have tried similar machines and honestly, they didn't help with the pain. They did distract from it for a bit, but not much. Mine was Ovira and has shorter wires and a small power clip so easily hidden.

I'd probably suggest you get a cheaper one to try first at home to see if it helps and then decide if it's worth it for the wireless freedom. You can't get a TENS machine for about £15 and that's really all Myoovi is, just wireless.

This talk on endometriosis from Dr Louise Newson is very good.
