Intimate itch sorry if tmi

Sorry might be tmi, just wondered whether anyone experienced similar and what it turned out to be? I know I'll need to see the GP eventually.
I've had intense itching around my intimate area, not in vagina but vulva and also the skin above my anus for around 4 months now.
There's no unusual discharge, or smell, no burning and nothing unusual when urinating.
The only thing that calms it is sudocreme.
At first I thought it was scented tissue, but have stopped that for a while now. No new washing powder, we use fairy non bio.
Vagisil doesn't help at all, which is what pharmacy recommended.
Thinking back, this started after I started having intimacy with husband again (non penetrative because we've been working through some issues). I really don't think he's been unfaithful and has picked up an sti or anything. It's so frustrating for me because now I can't receive any pleasure because it's so sore.

Ah, vaginal itching literally became the bane of my life. I used Vaginal Replense moisturiser (you can buy in boots/superdrug). I don’t know how old you are but it might be hormonal. I thought I had continuous thrush and tried everything but now I take Estrogen pessaries and that has sorted the problem! You might have a condition called Lichen Sclerosis (it’s not an STI) especially if experiencing itching around your perineal area/rectum. Might be worth booking a GP appointment!

Another vote for LS. I have it and use a cream given by doc. Changed it overnight and am barely troubled now

Ah thank you will make a GP appointment, hoping it isn't early signs of perimenopause!

Ask them to check your blood sugar levels, too.

edited to erase because I mis read I read you said you thought he had been unfaithful

You are best going to a sexual health clinic, they are more informed about vulval issues and can always do a sti test at the same time (particularly for trichomoniasis)

I had intense itching but not thrush as self treated and didn’t get any better.
Went to GP and was prescribed a fairly strong steroid cream that I alternated with thrush cream and that did the trick.

I've been dealing with this for 5 years or so. GP doesn't think it's LS, oestrogen cream hasn't helped, thrush swabs (and all other swabs) come back negative, GP not happy with regular use of steroid cream. Have an appt at the hospital vulva clinic on 23rd Dec after 6 mo on a waiting list which feels very reasonable to me... I'm not hopeful they will find a solution though.

A gp told me some years ago that the itching you describe (vulva and anus) is common in lichen sclerosus and is referred to as "figure of 8". There's a nice mental picture for you. Have a google, words not images! Next get yourself a diagnosis and some steroid ointment and bob's your uncle. You are welcome. I speak from experience.

Hi @Icyotter sorry to resurrect an old thread but did you solve this? I was searching this Morning because I have exactly this issue that's been bugging me for about a month. GP checked and has said to try thrush creams which aren't working. Going to call back to get a steroid but wondered if anything had worked for you?

HallidayJones6779 · 16/07/2025 05:26

@RNBrie did you get any solution ?
