PCOS diagnosis

I have a GP telephone apportionment on Friday to discuss what I believe is PCOS.

What sort of questions shall I expect to come up?

Is this something that can easily be discussed over the phone or are they likely to ask me to come in? I assume I would need a blood test at the very least to diagnose..?

My DD was referred to gynae, and yes she had blood tests and a scan. She was diagnosed due to lack of periods and acne, she isn’t overweight and isn’t hairy.

That's helpful to know. Thank you

I had an internal scan to diagnose me 20 years ago. Happy to say I went on to have two children with no intervention, loosing some weight helped.

When I was diagnosed I was referred to endocrinology. This was over 10years ago but the GP asked questions about weight, hormonal symptoms, period regularity. They referred me to endocrinology, who did blood tests and arranged an internal ultrasound. They made the PCOS diagnosis and offered treatment advice (initially I controlled my symptoms with diet then later on when I was TTC, I went onto metformin). Once the metformin was prescribed, the GP just issued as a repeat prescription. Once everything was stabilised, the hospital just discharged me back to the GP. At the time of diagnosis, my symptoms were fewer than 3 periods a year and blood tests showed higher than normal levels of testosterone and prolactin. The scan showed some cysts. Over the years I've had other symptoms that have come and gone depending on how much ive managed to keep the PCOS (and my weight!) under control. I've had two children - i had fertility treatment for the first, second was a natural conception. For the fertility treatment, I didn't need to do the 1yr trying before GP referred, but endocrinology referred me directly to the hospital fertility clinic (which i think is under gynae).

That's good to know, thank you.

I was wondering if they'd help me TTC as I have only been trying 6 months and I know it's normally it needs to be a year.

Fingers crossed this is still the case as it's very difficult to know what's going on when my cycle is over 65+ days at a time.
