Labiaplasty - anyone had one?

Before anyone accuses me of being a troll, I am not. Been here a while. MN can clarify. NC'd for this for obvious reasons.

I am seriously considering having a labiaplasty. My labia have been causing me pain and discomfort since I was about 12. I struggle to wear jeans or any trousers with a seam unless they're baggy. I'm petite in build and don't want to cover myself in baggy clothes just because my minge is on fire. I'm also young, and don't want to worry about shy sex for the rest of my life.
Yes I've done therapy.
No it hasn't changed anything.

I'm not particularly arsed about the appearance for myself. I've had it confirmed they're 'normal' or whatever that is. But I do get shy with sex.

I've had a baby and I will have to have a C section for any more children I have due to unrelated reasons. And the menopause shrink will hopefully be a long way off yet as I'm only 30.

Has anybody had it? I've got a consultation through Nuffield in a couple of weeks. What was the recovery like? Pros and cons?

Thank you!

I have not personally but I don’t know if you have ITVX hub (you can access free version) Olivia Attwood did a six part series on there about different plastic surgeries, one episode was about anything vulva/vagina related and had some labiaplasty patients on it.

If it’s causing you a lot of discomfort it’ll probably be worth it, I think the initial recovery can be a little brutal. As with anything just make sure you get a reputable surgeon who specialises in this area. Good Luck!

I did. It was for medical reasons - Like you, I am petite and I was self-conscious in swimsuits, etc… Then I had a removed from one, and of course I wanted to be evened up.
There are a couple of things about the surgery that you need to consider. 1) Due to the nature of the area, it’s quite a painful recovery. It’s also rather… erm, humid down there, and hard to keep sterile. It’s very prone to infection. I developed a staph infection and needed to have my wounds cleaned with iodine swabs daily for several weeks after my surgery. 2) The other thing is that it is erectile tissue. During and after arousal it can cause some discomfort. (Even a sense of misalignment, maybe…)
I don’t want to put you off. I don’t regret my surgery at all. I have since had kids, etc. Jeans are much more comfortable, etc. I would still do it, but don’t go into it thinking it’s without risk/consequnces.

Hello, thank you!

I'll take a look at the programme on ITVx, I've seen it advertised. Hopefully it'll be an interesting watch.

Hello, thank you. This is really helpful. The risk of loss of sensation is probably the biggest worry for me and of course infection

Apologies if this is too personal and please feel free to ignore, but can you see much scarring down there? Is it very minimal now? As I don't want to caveat one problem and then be shy over lots of scar tissue. I know there's a couple of different techniques surgeons use, so I'll of course ask these at consultation. Thank you so much though that's been really helpful.

@butterflychickenflaps I didn’t scar evenly. The dissolvable stitches well… didn’t. They had to be removed. I think the scar situation has something to do with that and the infection. Any time you scar there will always be a different sensation. It’s a reasonably significant amount of skin to be removed. It’s unavoidable. As far as sensation goes, as long as they leave they good bit alone, everything’s hunky dory. I’m not quite bendy enough to see the scars! With a mirror I can. They’re old now. (As am I - they’re about 30yrs old). They have survived Brazilians, dodgy boyfriends and babies. Nobody’s complained.
