Hysterectomy at 38?

Hi all!
I had my appointment with the gynaecologist this week after a 6 month wait! They have offered a few options and one of them is a hysterectomy (not removing ovaries). I have a fibroid that is pushing againt the endometrial wall and has grown since last August. I had a mirena coil but this was expelled after 9 months in february along with long heavy bleeding and clots, periods since then have been horrendous and painful, ovulation is also agony. I have stage 2 endometriosis also and last had a laparoscopy in October 2020. I am 38, have 2 children aged 8 and 19 months, i know recovery will be hard if I opt for the hysterectomy, I just feel like I would be better off just going for this option whilst its being offered? I was actually shocked she offered one! Thank you 😊

I had a hysterectomy last year; I was a bit older than you (48). It was brilliant. What people don't appreciate when they warn you that recovery is hard is that life is bloody hard dealing with gynae problems that are so severe that you are at the point of needing a hysterectomy. I was so debilitated at that point that I felt better as soon as I came around from the anaesthetic.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy and also had ovaries removed. I went home two days after the operation. Yes, you're going to be uncomfortable for two or three weeks - the day after the operation is the worst, but after that wasn't bad at all. The pain was never unmanageable and I came off the codeine quite quickly. Six weeks after the operation I was able to do things that I hadn't been able to do for years previously. I'm now able to have my career (I was at the point of nearly giving it up), holidays, do sport, hobbies, etc. Things had got so bad over a period of years that I'd forgotten what normal life was like. It makes me really angry that medical professionals act like a hysterectomy is an absolute last resort, not to be contemplated, etc.. For me, it was completely liberating.
