For over one week now I have had a constant, low level urge to urinate. When I go, I produce a small or very small amount. Literally two minutes later the urge is back. At night, the sensation is unbearable... I have spent most nights of the last week up all night, on and off the toilet constantly, crying in frustration.

I wouldn't describe the sensation as pain - it's pressure, and tingling. Bizarrely, I also have tingling in my feet/ soles - this is more of a long term, but on/off problem and has kept me up at night sporadically for the last year or two. Right now I cannot stop visiting the toilet, the sensation in my bladder is so uncomfortable and my feet/legs are all tingly. My whole body feels horribly agitated. I don't have a temperature.

To try and treat this, I have tried the OTC sachets for UTIs, and then was prescribed a one-off sachet antibiotic (Monurol), which I took on Saturday evening. I've only felt worse since taking that. I'm not convinced this is a UTI as I have no burning when I pee, no temperature or pain, no cloudy or smelly urine. But it's becoming unbearable and I can't really go out or do anything as I'm tied to the toilet. I have managed to make a GP appointment for Wednesday morning but in the meantime, any ideas? I'm so uncomfortable and worried :(

Oh and @LancashireSquirrel I started out with both the capsules and the (sachets) drink. The combination really helped.
Now I just use the capsules and keep a few sachets on hand just in case. But I haven’t used them in a long time.
I’m religious about the capsules though - they’re called “Defend.” They send two bottles a month because the bottles only hold 30.
And they have a third product if you’re having sex regularly which they recommend.
If you’re having intercourse on the regular it could be your issues are related to that. My old doctor called it “honeymoon cystitis” lol.

I had this for so long and it was so uncomfortable, I ended up having cystectomy under general anaesthetic and they found nothing in the bladder. My mum had a similar problem and was found to have stagnant urine in her bladder as she wasn’t able to empty properly her urethra was narrow . It sounds to me like you have a underlying infection which is not showing up in UTI tests Usually you’ll be referred to a hospital if it carries on and they can give you some antibiotics for about three months and something called hipprex to prevent an infection if they find any protein
I’m still having all the pain and the horrible urge and I’ve just put it down to an over sensitive bladder which is actually a thing.
try to drink water and avoid citrus and spicy foods, including caffeine and I hope you find the cause

I had this and I worked out it was always in the latter half of my menstrual cycle. I started taking the pill and this has resolved it. Think it was related to decreasing oestrogen levels.

An update (for those kind enough to post responses and for anybody who Googles and reads the thread looking for help!):

The gynaecologist was extremely reassuring. She discussed interstitial cystitis, which is one possibility. She has sent off my urine and smear test samples, and depending on the results she will prescribe one of two different antibiotics for me. She also reassured me that if antibiotics aren’t effective, the next step is to refer me on to her urologist colleague.

Last night was the best and most comfortable night I have had since this all started! She said that stress can contribute to interstitial cystitis (and she has personal experience of this), so to try and remain calm and hang in there. I do suffer from anxiety and I’m sure this has contributed to making the situation worse, particularly overnight.

Her other key advice was to ensure I am drinking 2-3 litres of water a day. That’s my priority while I wait for the lab results.

I'm pleased your appointment was helpful. I hope you find some relief soon.

Old post but how did you get on ? As I’m experiencing the same symptoms

I had something similar to this (with legs twitching).

It turned out that I had a small nodule in my bladder, right by the exit, which was irritating me and making me feel like I needed to wee all the time. It was removed and checked (found to be harmless). They thought it might have developed because of a previous UTI. I think the twitching legs may have been due to magnesium/electrolyte deficiency, as I was drinking so much water to try to flush out any infection.

This was more than 10 years ago and it hasn't recurred.

I had been concerned about possible MS, because it's in my family, but touch wood it was nothing like that.
