So much bleeding and pain - 5 days post hysteroscopy, biopsy and coil fitting

At the beginning of the week, I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy due to post menopausal bleeding. Also agreed to have the mirena coil fitted to help manage the bleeding.

Had previously been on norethisterone for about a year and then off for about 6 to 8 months with no bleeding. So a technical diagnosis of postmenopausal has been slightly challenging, but most likely. I’m 54.

Despite usually being pretty stoic, I am in agony. Over-the-counter painkillers are not really having much impact and the bleeding is off the scale. Going through a couple of overnight pads in less than an hour and have already had to change my clothing four times today. Every time I move, I just flood.

When I asked what to expect, I was told it can take up to 3 months to settle. Currently have an appointment to get the results in a fortnight but consultant did say she’d let me know sooner if possible.

At the moment, I can’t leave the house. Am I missing something? Any advice? I have just found some tranexamic acid left from a couple of years ago so I’ve taken a dose of that in desperation.

Bit of an update:

Biopsy is clear - no cancer, or pre-canerous cells. Flooding took a week to stop and bleeding, even with TXA and norethisterone, took two weeks. I'm now three weeks on and just occasional spotting.

Saw my consultant today. She says I can either gradually wean off the norethisterone and see what happens or consider a hysterectomy and has referred me on a a colleague who specialises in robotic hysterectomies.

Feel a bit torn. Hysterectomy is a big step but I can't face the idea of any more episodes like the last one and it could be hanging over me for another 3 years +. My mum went through the menopause in her late fifties, as did her mum.

Endometrial ablation was not mentioned?

I bled similarly and had endometrial ablation surgery. In my case northisterone stopped the bleeding until I finished the tablets when it started again. Another prescription of the same pills had no effect.

Yes, it was. But apparently my cavity is too large for ablation to work.

I'm seeing the other consultant tomorrow so hope to better understand my options and timescales as well as the pros and cons.
