Copper Coil.. Severe bleeding after intercourse

Hi everyone, I hope this is the correct place to post this.

I had the copper coil in around one and a half weeks ago, I opted for this as I've never responded well to hormonal contraception. The nurse did tell me that as I already experienced heavy periods that it would make them so much worse but that some people get on ok with it.. I thought I'd give it a bit to see how I got on. Ever since I've bleed on and off, nothing terrible but heavy at times (not sure period until next week so bracing myself).

Today dh and I had sex and around 45 minutes after I felt a huge gush, went to the toilet and it was dark blood filling my pad. I then had to sit on the toilet because it was leaking from me like a water tap (sorry!), I couldn't move and could feel several clots pass. After around 30 minutes I got up and the toilet was a massacre. I was shaking the whole time on the toilet because despite having very heavy periods I have never ever experienced anything like this. It's still heavy now and the odd clot but I have pain where you would usually have period pain and lower back pain. This can't be normal can it? Do I need to do anything tonight if it's this bad or is that ridiculously dramatic?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

I would personally phone nhs 24, you can never be too careful!

If you're changing your pad every 1-2 hours because it is soaked then go to A&E

otherwise GP tomorrow

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately I'm in NI and we don't have NHS 24 which is really annoying!
I didn't think A&E was an option with really heavy bleeding in a woman - It's still very heavy with clots but I'm hoping it calms down. I'll phone my GP tomorrow as from what I've read it could have became misplaced.

If NHS 24 not an option I’d go to A&E especially if it’s not slowing down.
