Hello,
So my lovely MIL just casually told me that I look pregnant which has upset me because I had thought the same in private ... I am 52 kilos for 1m66 - not sure in stones and feet I'm afraid. I have quite skinny arms, face and legs etc but a bit of a round tummy - at 46 I have noticed that it has grown over the last couple of years and wonder if it is pre menopause based? I have had to buy new trousers because mine got uncomfortable. Anyway, I also have a prolapse so have to avoid jumping and running. I can't swim. Any ideas what I can do which won't make the prolapse worse?

Do you have diastasis recti? Physio may help.

Get rid of the MIL? She clearly isn't that lovely if she's body shamed you.

TragicRabbit · 03/08/2024 18:38

I take it she has a washboard stomach

When I was slim but looked pregnant it was because I had lactose intolerance that I didn’t know about. How do you feel health wise?

sleepy78 · 03/08/2024 18:39

I just said thanks in a sarcastic manner. She has form for this and usually I ignore her but she struck a chord.

That's interesting. I do have digestive issues which I take medicine for. I might try to cut that out and see what happens.

Dh grandparents said the same to me I was absolutely devastated as I'd just started to gain a bit of confidence 3 months post partum.

Some old people think they can say what they want without consequence... But my youngest is 9 so I have no excuse. It's only been a growing problem for the last 2 years or so though.

Some people are just rude and look, you know her, was she trying to be hurtful or not? Either way I just think ignore her. Who cares what she thinks. Are you happy and healthy?

soupfiend · 03/08/2024 18:51

You're 52kg and 166cm?

You're very very slender then

So any bloating or peri menopause bloating will look disproportionate. Thats all. You dont sound as if you need to lose weight

Im a similar height at 66kg!! People say Ive lost too much weight but Im right at the top of a healthy BMI. Need to lose a touch more.

Yes, this is exactly the problem. I don't know why it is. .

Well they're dead now so 🤷 don't let anyone get you down do things at your own pace.I had pnd which might have contributed to my reaction.

Its just bloating and different fat layering itself there. How are you with sugar, I find that bloats me, hurts my joints etc (I dont mean just out and out sugar Im also talking about bread, potatoes, wheaty things like pasta). What about your posture and muscle strength there?

My stomach is quite out of proportion, Im probably wearing clothes about 2 sizes bigger than I actually need to accommodate it.

Gettingannoyednow · 03/08/2024 19:22

Persistent abdo bloating should be mentioned to your GP.

I don't eat much pasta, bread or rice because I have a constipation problem (I'm glad this forum is anonymous!) I do like a glass of wine though.

I wouldn't call it bloated. Just a bit fatter than the rest of me. Grin

Does it fluctuate during the day or is it constant? If it changes then it is likely to be bloating and you may benefit from working out what's causing it and cutting it out. If it's constant and you've gained weight around your uterus while remaining slim everywhere else, it may be worth visiting the GP.

It's pretty constant. That's a bit scary. What could it be?

Here's a photo. I'm not sure it's very clear but it might give you an idea.

You are slightly over 8 stone and 5ft 5inches.

StSwithinsDay · 03/08/2024 19:36

That looks bloated to me. I think I'd get a gp appointment and have it checked.

sunshinechaser · 03/08/2024 19:36

I had this-I'm very slim but my tummy became very bloated when I was mid 40s. I was worried about ovarian cancer so went to my GP and asked for a CA125 blood test. This was thankfully negative but my GP also tested my thyroid bloods and they were off the chart for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
I started the meds and felt better, switched to lactose free milk and cut out bread and pasta and my bloating is much better. I would visit your GP and specifically state you are concerned about ovarian cancer.
