Perineal body reconstruction, what to expect?

My first child was a forceps delivery 10 years ago requiring episiotomy, all seemed to heal well. Second child a few years later was a normal vaginal birth and afterwards the midwives were deciding whether a small tear would need stitching,I wanted to avoid stitches if I could and they agreed that it would likely heal fine on its own. This was a mistake.

I have seen a couple of GPs about this and all said everything looks normal but I have been so unhappy with how it looks and feels. I recently saw a private gynae and was pretty devastated with her findings. She says I have a grade 2 rectocele and the perineal body measures only 1cm, I believe it should be 4 or 5cm? I have no symptoms from the rectocele but pelvic floor is very weak. I have several skin tags just inside the vaginal opening and the opening is much bigger due to not being stitched after second birth.

As the rectocele isn’t causing me issues I am considering leaving this alone but having a perineal body reconstruction, with removal of the skin tags as these cause pain after sex. Has anybody had this surgery? I thought it would be similar to the recovery after my episiotomy but the gynae said she would sign me off work for 6 weeks! I was expecting 2 weeks and realistically I don’t think I can take 6 weeks off work. Will it really be that bad? My work is fully desk based and I was hoping if I booked 2 weeks off I could go back without having to explain what I’d had done to boss/colleagues. I really want to have this surgery as the state of things down there has been affecting my mental health and sex life for years and I’m worried with the perineum being almost non existent whether I am likely to suffer other types of prolapse and continence issues as I get older. I’m 35.

if anybody has had this surgery can you please tell me about your recovery?
