Eyebrows

Has anyone ever had this problem? When I'm stressed I find myself rubbing one I my eyebrows and I sometimes go further by plucking at individual hairs - weirdly, it can be quite pleasurable! However, at times I've not been able to stop myself and done some considerable damage, even leaving a gap in the brow and needing to fill gap with pencil. I think there's a name for the 'pull hair for pain' thing but can't remember it. Have even thought of shaving eyebrows to stop me doing it but do t want the hassle of drawing them every time. I know this isn't major compared to some worries but have wondered over the years if it's an outward sign of some underlying issue. Is it just a niche habit or something bigger. Would be reassuring in a funny sort of way if anyone else has done the same and any thoughts or advice would be great.

Trichotillomania is the name for it

Thank you! I knew it was something. Would doctors just see me as a waste of time if I mentioned it?

I do this with my eyelashes. I find fidget toys very helpful to keep my hands busy. CBT is meant to be good as well but a fidget toy is cheaper!

No, of course you should seek advice from your GP!
I'm not an expert by any means, but your GP can advise and put you in touch with the right person to talk to, as it's anxiety related I believe.

Also keeping an elastic band round your wrist and snapping it.

Thank you! Do you know, I've just realised that I also fidget with paper lips and tend to bend them out of shape. Cheaper than CBT as you said! Smile

I can see how that would divert me. Thank you.
