Testing AMH after miscarriage

Hello everyone,

I had an early miscarriage at 6 weeks around 10 days ago (that's when the bleeding started). I want to test my AMH and have the kit sat at home, but when would be okay to do this? I am still testing positive, albeit very faint, on easy@home strips. I'm so anxious and just wanna take the test but I don't wanna be upset if it's a low result, as I don't know how pregnancy/miscarriage affects it. Any advice would be really helpful xx

No expert but I can't see how AMH levels would necessarily be affected by a pregnancy/miscarriage. Different if you were testing your hormones. But probably best to wait until you've had a negative pregnancy test and had a normal period, if you haven't already. I'd be a bit concerned personally if you're still getting positive tests 6 weeks after an early miscarriage, if I were you I'd contact the GP or early pregnancy unit to check there aren't any retained products.

Oh no sorry, I was 6 weeks pregnant when I had the miscarriage, it's only been 10 days since then

Ah sorry misread! I'd still wait til you get a negative test and have a normal period, hopefully that'll get you a more accurate result. It's a good sign you were able to get pregnant, and having 1 MC doesn't make you more likely to have another one. And remember AMH is about quantity, not quality, so i don't think it would link to having had a MC, as most are caused by chromosome issues. If it helps I'm 30 weeks now after a MC last year, when I was 11 weeks.

As PP has said, AMH is a measure of egg reserve, it's of no indication of whether you'll have another miscarriage. High reserve and quality can go hand in hand, though, as the more eggs you have, the higher the quality of the eggs tends to be. Both of these numbers decline with age.

I've had a handful of miscarriages all in a row, I've never had a pregnancy go to term. My last miscarriage was November last year, but it was an IVF pregnancy, on a high amount of hormones and it was an empty sac measuring 5w3d. It took months to resolve.

Now I'm currently 5w3d (funny that!) into a complete fluke pregnancy. I have no idea if it'll progress, but I'm taking each day as it comes. All my losses were early, before 6 weeks, so I'm absolutely terrified. But all I can do it sit tight and put my mind on other things.

At this stage, don't test your AMH, but do keep testing your hCG to ensure it goes negative. You can then try to conceive again as soon as you're ready. Bear in mind that every loss is different, so you may be better waiting until your cycles get back to normal first before trying again.

My cycles weren't wonky, but they were very heavy bleeds, as in little to no progesterone, so my body just dumped out the lining in a day or two, I flooded and couldn't leave the house, so there was no way a fertilised egg will have stuck.
