Heart

Woke up at 445 I was dreaming my heart was palpitating and beating fast then slow but it turns out it was actually happening.
I'm usually at about 90 a minute and it's gone down to between 53-70 a minute intermittently since I've been checking and it's beating not in a normal pattern.
I've got three kids here and no one to ask for help (also a non driver yay)
I'm trying not to stress or panic and carry on as normal but I feel a bit off. I'm hoping a bit of normal and it will soothe itself, best I can do is try and get a gp from 8 onwards
I know I need checking but can this be thyroid/ menopause/ any other kind of not panicking about heart thing?

It might be a panic attach. They tend to come unprovoked and can feel very much like a heart event but tends to go away on its own within 15-20min. Try to relax and take deep breaths (longer exhale).

Thanks. I actually hope it is

Please call 111. Don’t ignore these worrying symptoms.

Sux2buthen · 11/07/2024 06:31

I need to get the kids out of here to school

I think waking up with palpitations can be a peri/menopause related symptom. I'd still get checked by a doctor though (I am not one)

HamBagelNoCheese · 11/07/2024 06:39

Can you describe what "not a normal pattern" is?

FairisleFairy · 11/07/2024 06:39

Does it feel continuously out of rhythm or does that come and go?
There are all sorts of things under the banner of palpitations, many common and benign, but nobody can tell you here as you’d need an ECG.

definitely get medical advice if this is something new for you

Sux2buthen · 11/07/2024 06:48

Inconsistent beating without a real Rythm
Usually it's very fast always has been. I feel out of sorts I will call docs at 8 and try to carry on as normal as I'm trying not to freak out
I will update anything thanks for replies

How are you measuring your heart rate? A lot of commercial wristband monitors like an apple watch are very inaccurate and should not be used for medical diagnosis.

Sux2buthen · 11/07/2024 06:56

Timing my pulse
Also a BP monitor I've used both and compared

I am happy to say that after two and a half hours I'm feeling slightly better and it's going a bit more enthusiastically now. I will still call doctors; at 6am I was absolutely terrified

Be prepared for docs to send you to hospital. I know you mentioned needing to get kids to school, do you have anyone you can rely on in an emergency?

Sux2buthen · 11/07/2024 07:26

Not really unfortunately.
I've got kids ready for school and got dressed washed my hair etc, heart rate is back to a more familiar 100 a minute.
That may seem a little high but it's my normal.
I don't feel woozy anymore I will still call the doctors though that has scared me

HamBagelNoCheese · 11/07/2024 11:46

Has your high resting heart rate ever been noted/investigated?

Sux2buthen · 11/07/2024 12:22

Not really. It's caused concern when I've been pregnant but never looked into.

I have an ECG appt, blood tests and if it happens again straight to hospital.
Thanks so much all Flowers

Well I'm in bed now paranoid about a second round of last nights/ mornings events. Not expecting any replies, just jotting down how I'm feeling because actually'talking' with people here this morning somewhat helped me see clearly what to do and I believe helped me regulate. So thanks all, I'm crossing fingers for a non eventful night!

I had this and ended up in resus with my heart racing at 180 bpm in fast atrial fibrillation. Eventually had a cardiac ablation.
It was put down to stress, hormones, ectopic beats etc etc initially. It wasn't.
Please go to A&E if you get a recurrence.

Pipecleanerrevival · 11/07/2024 21:38

This happened to me on ozempic. Stopped when I discontinued.

Sux2buthen · 12/07/2024 07:37

I absolutely will go on if it happens again without a doubt.
Slept well, I feel I've been kicked in the chest sore and bruised feeling
