Horrible pain immediately following orgasm - has anyone heard of this?

Hello, I’ve NC’d for this as I’m a little embarrassed.

For the last 5 or 6 years I’ve experienced really horrible pain immediately following orgasm and I don’t know why it’s happening. The pain happens on both the lower left and right hand sides of my abdomen. It’s often so painful that I can’t do anything for 5-10 minutes. I’m a 55 year old woman, and I have endo, scans of my uterus are all clear and according to a Doctor, my ovaries “have disappeared”.

I don’t know why it’s happening and I’m fed up.
Has anyone heard of this?
TIA

Not in those circumstances but yes. Have you been referred to women's pelvic physio? Psychosexual therapy? Both together can really help if it's a functional rather than structural issue.

Have you got a low grade UTI or irritated bladder?

strawberryteacake · 10/07/2024 04:36

I have heard of this in connection to endo, which you say you have. Definitely worth seeing a pelvic physio, though.

Endometriosis can and does cause deep pain during sex so this is likely the cause.

Ozanj · 10/07/2024 14:05

Chlymidia and Endo can both cause this. Often the endo is in other areas of the body by 55, not just the uterus

Phineyj · 10/07/2024 14:26

I also think it's most likely you've got endo outside the uterus. You need a more extensive scan by an experienced gynae.

Bit random but I also got this when I had undiagnosed coeliac (presumably due to stomach damage - which healed once I gave up wheat).

Piggywaspushed · 10/07/2024 17:18

It'd called dysorgasmia and is a thing but most GPs are non plusses and only know about pain during sex.

How old are you?

Piggywaspushed · 10/07/2024 17:19

Oh, you said...

Afraid this is a joys of menopause thing. It will pass...

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2024 17:21

OMG yes!!!!!!
It started after I had DS (although I did have some generalised pain before).
I have had scans and they found nothing and it just gets worse - DS is 15 now.
Mine is mostly on my left side though

Hi OP! I’ve just posted about this as I am experiencing similar. It has just started in the last couple of months since having IVF treatment.

I don’t have endometriosis, or chlamydia.

I’m not menopausal.

I have episodes of exactly this (consistent for maybe a few weeks and then nothing for months). I have endo in various places since I was 25. I'm 40 now. I it's the same I feel for you as it's agonizing to the core!!

Get this a bit. I think for me it's my bladder, though I don't have endo. But sounds like there might be many reasons..If you have endo adhesions on parts that contract during orgasm, the bits being pulled that also have pain receptors are quite likely to object I suppose 🙁

I have wondered if I have some sort of bladder issue since ivf! Did you ever get an opinion from the dr?

candycane222 · 06/11/2024 14:11

I did try to mention it to my GP but she got the wrong end of the stick and thought it was penetration that hurt (only found this out when I read the notes)

I have been referred for physio because of various pelvic-probably-pelvic-floor issues so will be trying again with them!

It’s shocking if you look through your medical notes how much they get wrong!

Hope the physio has better luck xx

Thanks ouch :)

Can happen due to fibroids or endometriosis.
