Anyone had a coil removed when the string are “missing”?

it was noted at my last smear my coil strings weren’t visible, I went for a scan to check the location and it’s in place but the strings obviously aren’t reachable (to me)
im getting the coil removed tomorrow (for unrelated reasons, I’m just done with it) and decided tonight that I’ll look online for other people’s experiences and lots are saying that they’re having to be referred on, or surgically removed!
now I’m panicking, I just want it out!

It will need to be done via a hysteroscopy

Same clear - the doctors at the gum clinic are professionals though. Mine had no issues and whipped it out so I would aim for positively ( I too was told what you were). Are you going to a clinic rather than your gp practice?

Huh?

I had the same situation..I had a smear and the coil strings had gone. I wanted the coil removed. I had to have an ultrasound to see where it was and it was still there, so I booked a gum clinic appointment and had it removed. If it was in a different position the gum clinic wouldn't have been able to remove it. It would have had to been removed using an ultrasound at a gynaecologist appointment or a hysteroscopy

The strings on my last one were missing, but as I didn't need contraception any more (so not looking to have it replaced) I was advised that it was fine to leave it. I had no problems for several years, but after some light spotting was referred to hospital for checks and had it removed under sedation. No further problems.

Unfortunately the nurse won't be able to do it for you, she will refer you. I was waiting 6 months for an appt on nhs but it kept getting cancelled. Eventually I gave up and had it removed at a private hospital for about £240 ish I believe (this was 6 years ago though). The doctor managed to get it out without any kind of surgery but he was experienced. It hurt like hell though! They will scan you to see where it is and this will then inform you of how they can remove it. Mine was just inside my cervix so was just reachable, obviously if it's gone into your womb you'll likely need surgery, but I imagine it will be a small OP xx

Yes, my strings were missing so GP sent me on to somewhere else & it was removed with ultrasound & extra long forceps, essentially! It was fine.
